As the title says what do you plan on getting how old are they and what is their budget for Xmas?
It's done every year but I think it's good for ideas and inspirations.
I'm pretty much stuck for ideas although it's early I like to be prepared before all the prices shoot up.
I plan to spend 250/300
Dc7 lol dolls, Xmas outfit arts crafts
What do you buy kids who aren't really interested in toys but are still youngish can anyone recommend spy kits science kits magazine subscriptions or activities PRESENTS?

full box lol dolls series 4
large squish de lish
2 shopkins dolls
chemistry kit
kinetic sand
large lol surprise pet
pooping unicorn
2 num noms playsets

Still to get a playmobil pyramid amongst other stuff.

bluetrampolines · 30/08/2018 18:21

I'm hoping to get some imaginext bargains. If anyone can recommend anything is be interested to know. Thanks.

tigercub50 · 30/08/2018 18:29

I haven’t given it much thought yet. DD9 is obsessed with those American “ nerlie” dolls (sp) but I’m not sure she’d play with them enough. We might get her a new tablet as she’s been complaining that hers isn’t working very well. We don’t set a budget. Having said that, I don’t think we’ve ever spent much more than £100 & we don’t really do stockings. I usually get her a new party dress. Oh & chocolate is always involved of course!

BarryTheKestrel · 30/08/2018 18:31

I don't really have a budget but have been picking up bits cheaply as will be on mat leave so money will be tight!

DD 3
So far has:
Huge playdoh set
Manhattan toys groovy girls doll set
New backpack for nursery
New trainers

And a few stocking filler bits, crayons in the shape of her name, a new colouring book, lol ball

Ds will be almost 3 months:
My pal Scout
Lamaze toy
Highchair

AnyFarrahFowler · 30/08/2018 18:41

I’ve enjoyed reading this thread!
DS will be 2 at Christmas (turning 3 a month later) so he is getting a little workbench & “tools” (since he loves the one at Playgroup) books, puzzles, some Playmobile, a Fireman dressing up outfit, a Cranky the Crane and some trains.
For his birthday in January he’s getting a Mud Kitchen for the garden, and a day out on a Thomas train.
Stocking will be bubbles, chocolate coins, an orange, socks, candy canes, some stickers, and some little cars/tractors/trucks.

DD will be 13 months and as much as I’d love to get her a dolls house & dolls, she won’t appreciate it yet, so she’ll get some books and a stocking with a fairy wand, bubbles, socks, hair bows, little snow globe, little cars (though I’m sure she’ll still steal her brother’s!) and little knitted doll. I may wrap up some of her new clothes and some nappies in case DS asks why Father Christmas hasn’t brought her anything..

Chrisinthemorning · 30/08/2018 18:48

DS (6) wants a telescope so would appreciate recommendations.
He’s getting the playmobil Romans set and tickets to see Horrible histories.
That’s all I know so far, budget is flexible but I guess £100 main present, £100 on other bits and pieces, £100 stocking. Would be £50 but the theatre tickets pushed it up.

anitagreen · 30/08/2018 20:53

Probably around £300 each. However this could change as my daughter wants the l.o.l doll house which is currently retailing for £184.99 Sad

PurpleMac · 30/08/2018 21:23

I don't have a budget but probably about £150 per child - we have DSS(9) and DS(2) - well, both turn those ages just before Christmas! I've finished my shopping for them, DH will then spend about £30 per child getting them books, smaller toys and stocking fillers. DS will have a slightly higher budget than DSS, who still believes in Father Christmas and actually raised the subject himself month ago that he knows his brother will get more toys to open on Christmas Day because father Christmas has to bring his own toys to two different houses, so what he opens at ours is only half of his presents. Smart kid.

DSS has the Harry Potter lego Great Hall, Quidditch Set, and Whomping Willow. That has taken up the bulk of his spend! So DH will top up with odds and sods.

DS has:

  • Happyland farm
  • Happyland safari
  • talking Woody doll
  • Woody pyjamas
  • book caddy
  • books
  • toy cleaning set
  • paint dangers
  • playdoh
  • Melissa and Doug stacking train
  • wooden tool box
  • wooden tea party set
  • Buzz Lightyear plush toy
  • flashcards
  • wooden guitar
  • Winnie the Pooh teddy

It looks so blatantly uneven but I've definitely spent more on DSS than DS! Luckily he has had it drilled into him that Father Christmas works to a budget and that if he really wants all the lego he won't get an awful lot else and he's more than happy with that.

Isadora2007 · 30/08/2018 21:27

@bluetrampolines

This is a good price and a huge set. Then maybe a set of heroes and vilians plus a vehicle and you’d be set

So what is everyone planning to buy their kids for Xmas and what's your budget?
PurpleMac · 30/08/2018 21:28

Paint dangers Shock I meant dabbers. Could be dangerous...

missyB1 · 30/08/2018 21:33

Ds will be 10 at Xmas

Basketball stand for garden.
Fuji instamatic camera
Disco light for bedroom
Magnetic notice board for bedroom

Lilicat1013 · 30/08/2018 23:38

My maximum budget for each child is £250, I tend try and get everything my list as much under budget as possible. Both children are autistic and have significant additional needs so are developmentally younger than they are.

My older son is eight, he likes all things Leapfrog brand, things about the human body, small toy figures and cooking.

In his stocking he has: human body cube book, Leapfrog Imagicards, Clangers figures, Moofia Breakfast Buddies x2 and Fifi and the Flower tots figures

Under the tree he has: Leapstart 3D (plus the books that go with it), vTech microphone, Leapreader Animal Adventure set, Beauty and the Beast Busy Book, vTech laptop, set of Care Bears and a cookery book

My younger son is five he has just started to develop some imaginary play, he loves Paw Patrol, light up toys, Play Doh and bowling

In his stocking he has: Paw Patrol Everest Beanie, Paw Patrol umbrella, ELC toy cakes set, Paw Patrol weebles x2 and a light up spinning toy

Under the tree he has: Paw Patrol Sea Patroller (and a Pirate Skye figure), Paw Patrol pirate boat set, Little Tikes bowling set, sparkle Play Doh set, Learning Resources letter blocks, Thomas minis raceway and a set of Paw Patrol books

Phoneq12 · 25/09/2018 05:15

I'm not sure on budget no more than £300, I only have the one though. DD is 5 yrs she loves Lol! So probably the house, or new electronic dog ricky by furreal she's mentioned which does look really cute. Both are expensive so will be one or the other for main present and a few smaller presents and stocking fillers.

ohlittlepea · 25/09/2018 05:27

We are trying the mumsnet 4 somethings plus a stocking this year. So far I've got my eldest a set of Jill Murphy books £7 bargain and some Russian dolls for her stocking. I think it's easy to imagine elves making Russian dolls :) my baby we've bought a little wooden xylophone. Our budget is less than £100 each.

Zoflorabore · 25/09/2018 05:45

Ds is 15 and dd is 7 buy both have birthdays within weeks of Christmas.spend around £500 each on them plus clothes which are around £200 each. Dd wants the LOL house and the Our generation school which totals over £300 just for 2 presents. Haven't a clue what to buy ds as he has everything but he does have expensive taste in aftershave and loves Tom Ford. Dd has been told that we have to de clutter previous toys as sne clearly doesn't play with all of them. 3 months today until Christmas Smile

RangerLady · 25/09/2018 05:46

Our.lists look very different maybe I am a boring parent? We have both DD birthdays in Christmas week so lots to think of. DD1 (Will be 4) large grimms rainbow, binoculars, books, a new party dress and little wooden bracelets for her stocking. I have lots more ideas for her but hoping to influence family. DD2 (Will be 1) a giant soft toy whale, a haba rag doll, wooden blocks. I'd love to get her a wobbel board but doubt the expense will be approved as I'm not working currently and we're moving house. I feel a bit sad for her that Dd1 had more spent on her for her first christmas

theboxofdelights · 25/09/2018 05:55

No idea of budget atm but 12 year old here. Have already bought some HP Lego. Clothes will feature and a framed print for her bedroom wall from an artist I like. I will give her a choice of a new phone (currently has my ancient iPhone 5) but suspect, and hope, that she is too sensible to choose a new phone when she has one that works perfectly! She has sensitive skin which limits my choice but there will be toiletries involved somewhere.

Noboozeforme · 25/09/2018 06:02

DC1 - no stocking (yay) as he's finally moved out ! £100 cash. DC2 £100 cash plus stocking which will be - Netflix subscription, iTunes vouchers, Nandos voucher, socks, jumper, lush pack. I love lazy parenting Grin

Phillipa12 · 25/09/2018 06:13

Budget is £150 per child. My eldest is getting a hover board but i am going halves with my exh for that one! Eldest knows that the hover board uses up most of his budget. Dc2 and 3 are getting marvel avengers toys and a kindle each, am hoping that the kindles will be in the black friday sales.

duckling84 · 25/09/2018 06:23

£100 per dc is the budget but I always end up spending around £150 by the time you add in clothes, stocking fillers, chocolates etc

Dd(14) wants a new phone so she is getting a cash contribution towards one.

PodgeBod · 25/09/2018 09:50

My budget is £150-200 each.
DD3 wants everything advertised on Nick Jr right now. She's getting a Little Mermaid doll, some Toy Story toys, Bugs in the Kitchen game she has specially requested, a fire fighter dress up set, some books and a leapfrog reader thing. Shopping carefully to try and get that all in budget.

DD2 is much harder. Probably the leapfrog ice cream truck, a slide and some books but I don't have any other ideas right now.

PodgeBod · 25/09/2018 09:55

I'm trying to discourage the Bugs in the Kitchen game though because I don't think it's what she thinks it is, it might be a bit old for her.

BiddyPop · 25/09/2018 10:51

DD is almost 13, and DH reckons that a new phone is what she needs (she smashed the screen on her current phone, which has been repaired, but the only decent protective cover we can get for that size phone is massive - so we need to go newer to get a decent slimline cover that she will accept).

She's gone off lego this past year.

Perhaps a game for Xbox.
I think we got all the sailing gear she needs at present (there were various bits last year) and other sports bits. She got a rucksack last year as her birthday present (for Scouts) but a few camping bits and bobs could fill out the stocking.

I generally budget about €400 to cover Santa, present from us and her birthday (26th Dec) combined. Sometimes its a bit more, sometimes less - we can afford what we spend, its more a case of getting something she'd like and appreciate, and not setting the bar too high for other times.

charlyn · 25/09/2018 11:04

DD is 5 and budget is £130 ish.
Her main presents will be

Box of Lego classic and base
Sylvanian families candy cart
Hatchimals Nursey
Lego Frozen set
Board Game of some sort
Possibly another small Sylvanian Families set
Books (got 10 for £10 a few months ago and saved 5)

Not sure about dss who is 11 as he hasn't said what he wants but im sure they'll be a ps4 game or two on the list.
