So last year ds has the horse farm and the Christmas on the farm advent calendar which went down well.
This year I’d like to get him some more but there’s so much choice I don’t know where to start??
He is into animals, but I also think he’d love the hospital, or a house with people in.. what has everyone’s favourites been in their experience. Thanks

Mine was obsessed with knights, Romans etc. I looked on eBay and bought bundles that people were getting rid of. We ended up with mountains of the stuff !

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 26/08/2018 12:19

The swimming pool is the most popular thing in our house.

PotteringAlong · 26/08/2018 12:20

It’s the fire station here!

NoWordForFluffy · 26/08/2018 12:20

We have the full emergency services vehicle range which the DC love.

SleepyPaws · 26/08/2018 12:39

The police set had been the biggest hit here, also the camper van.

Pomtastic · 26/08/2018 12:41

Campervan was a huge hit here, for years!

Thesearmsofmine · 26/08/2018 12:41

The hospital is the favourite here, it is fab x

Justmuddlingalong · 26/08/2018 12:43

I'd recommend the camper van and the tree house.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 26/08/2018 12:52

Our 3YR old has been telling us Santa will get him the airport since he saw the 2018 catalogue in January!

Redrosebelle · 26/08/2018 13:01

Have looked at those suggestions, thanks! Treehouse looks amazing, and I like the hospital too! Still looking for any other suggestions.
Anyone had the modern house with doorbell? Or the take along doll house which is about £30?

Slightly highjacking but how old were your kids when they started getting into Playmobil? Mine is almost 3 and it's on my list of stuff to consider for Christmas...

littlemisscomper · 26/08/2018 13:17

I think a mature 3 years old is the right time to start collecting it. I just love Playmobil! It lasts throughout their childhood, unlike all those character toys that they play with for a few months before they're on to the next craze.

OP, what's your budget? If you don't want to splash out on the hospital you could buy a hospital room set or 2 and let him build the walls himself with wooden bricks? That's better for imaginative play any way, and he can make the rooms as big as he wants. If I added together the hours I spent of my childhood doing that it wold probably amount to about 6 months! Then the money you saved on the building you could put towards and ambulance maybe?

Or if he's into animals, maybe a zoo?

We have: A zoo, a farm, a beach, a water park, a Christmas/winter scene, a police station and a few miscellaneous bits. I would say they're equally popular but the Christmas scene we only use a couple of times a year, as it's seasonal, an the water park and the beach only during the warmer months. I would say the zoo gets the most use, but then my brother did have a pirate island when we were growing up that was awesome!!

timeisnotaline · 26/08/2018 13:22

Oh dear. I have tried not to get playmobil but everyone seems to think it’s so amazing! Can a 3.5 year old go straight to the usual stuff or do they need the 123 sets still?

Freckle88 · 26/08/2018 13:33

We have the treehouse, it's a lovely set, comes with lots of animals!

TacoFriday · 26/08/2018 13:39

Camper van and swimming pool. A few years ago, the camper van was on the Christmas bargain threads for around fifteen quid. I bought 3 Grin

Moonflower12 · 26/08/2018 13:48

I love, love playmobil. The ambulance is the favourite in our house. But it is used to transport animals and is a camper van too. I buy the little animal sets for stockings and the little people and ask other people to get the sets. In a world of cheap plastic they are lovely. They are easy to store too.

At 3.5 years I would go for the proper stuff. The 123 stuff is aimed at under3s.

MakeUpGirl · 26/08/2018 14:04

My DD 4 absolutely loves the hospital and is keen to have the ambulance and add on sets.
She’s also animal mad and has just mentioned she wants the aquarium which looks like another set that can be added to

WutheringTights · 26/08/2018 14:22

We have tons of the 123 stuff. We have the house, farm, hospital, take along fire station and other stuff. My nearly six year old still plays with it with my nearly four year old and two year old. It has fewer fiddly bits than the normal stuff and stuff doesn't get lost. They hardly ever get out the normal playmobil but the 123 comes out all the time.

JurassicGirl · 26/08/2018 14:29

My DS6 loves playmobil & anything to do with animals.

My SIL gave us a huge Noah's Arc set, a camper & a huge tub of figures a few years ago & they are played with daily!

This ds would like the Take Along Farm & has put it on his Christmas list.

My DM is going to buy him the Penguin Pool & we'll get a few of the small bags of animals (turtles, flamingos etc) for his stocking.

Also got the Romans set (that's been talked about on the bargain threads) for DS8.

bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 26/08/2018 14:43

Camper van and swimming pool for us too. Nephew had a theatre set which was super cool and great for imaginative play. Mine also like the farm sets but they set them up then get bored rather than playing with them as much as the sets that don't need much arranging before they can play.

I'd say for a 3 year old the normal sets should be just fine. You can remove any tiny bits and add them in when a bit older if needed

Redrosebelle · 26/08/2018 16:40

So I’m currently looking at:

The take along house which is about £35
The treehouse
The city zoo

Any more recommendations? I think he would also love the ambulance and fire truck.
I think the zoo would tie in nicely with his horse farm too?

The kids got the pirate ship between them 2 years ago and have loved it ever since - it gets played with practically every day.

isabella2 · 26/08/2018 23:04

Mine like the treehouse, hospital, any playmobil vehicles and we have the ikea dolls house with playmobil furniture. My almost 3 year old has enjoyed playmobil for over a year now (I hid small bits) and spends hours playing with it now. It's both my children's favourite toy.

I have my eye on the climbing rocks and hut this year!

Join their birthday club and they send you a 20% off voucher plus children get birthday cards every year.

Redrosebelle · 27/08/2018 12:24

Sorry I should’ve said. Budget undecided really, but could go up to about £70 if it was for something really special. I am looking for bargains though!! Showed my little boy some playmobil videos. He said he likes the house and hospital. Am thinking hospital would be a good buy, can ask relatives to buy the ambulance and other add on bits? Am sure it was half price at some point last year, too.
Me personally, I want the tree house and the zoo! Have found the zoo half price for £50. Toying with the idea of that too, and have seen so many add on animals for it!
