We have a basic wooden track already and yesterday I ordered this one as a Christmas present to add to it.

I’d like to get some extra accessories like a tunnel or bridge but I’ve been looking on amazon and eBay and there is so much choice I’m a bit stumped what might be good. Can anyone recommend any accessories that have been well loved and worth the money? DC is 2 if that helps.

I shouldn’t have looked at that site I’ve spent £90 Blush

Only noticed after paying that VAT is in addition to the prices shown!

Got a few good bits though.

I found a wooden train set a fantastic investment. My ds (at 12, 10 and 8) have just rediscovered it and spent most of yesterday and today making a huge track. We had sets from Tesco, bigjigs, brio, and ikea. We also bought a job lot off a friend. I did find some of the less sturdy bridges a pain as they would trip you up as you walked carefully over the track. Other than that we love it all!

mine aged 8 & 3 both love the brio collapsing bridge - their favourite thing is making the trains crash. They have also loved the bigjigs turntable & track junction packs which mean we can build much more elaborate tracks. Bigjigs also do a range of accessories (bridge, tunnel, engine shed) in pinks/purple which my train mad dd loves!!

My sons love this. They can record their voice and pretend to be a station announcer. (And do silly noises!!!!)

Also, I know the IKEA track has a bad rep, but I was in there at the weekend and they have modified their design. They have got rid of the stupid plastic ends and made it all wooden just like the brio/ wooden track.

I second the Brio bell. Also we like the BigJigs Pendolino train. They also do a Eurostar. I know others have mentioned but crane with the blocks which you can move off the back of trains etc. I was considering getting rid of all our track and trains but maybe I won’t. Feeling all wistful.

I remember one year all DS wanted for Christmas was a level crossing for his wooden railway (wish he was so easy to please now at 10!). Anyway, it got loads of use, what with being able to incorporate his thousands of cars. I was slightly concerned at the number of cars which seemed to fall foul of the signalling system and end up being trashed by an oncoming train. But it didn't half keep him occupied.

My stuff arrived today. Really quick delivery and it all looks great. Starting to feel a bit excited for Christmas now, my son will love the new additions!
