Rudolph Days- what do you do?

beepbeeprichie · 24/01/2018 10:58

I read on another thread about having a Rudolph day once a month on 25th- I hadn’t thought of that before but sounds a lovely way to put a little bit of Christmas sparkle into each month.
I’ve got a little Christmas pudding left over so was considering eating that and having a listen to Christmas Wonderland radio for a little while tomorrow. Could I ask for your ideas/ traditions?

I think I'm going to do this too. May just have hot chocolate with squirty cream and marshmallows and our Christmas board game (Santas rooftop scramble) for this first one though as its tomorrow and not planned for it at all!

frasier · 24/01/2018 18:30

OMG won't the children expect presents?

woodlanddreamer · 24/01/2018 18:35

No, Christmas is for Christmas. Not for December 1st boxes & Christmas all year. The whole magic of Christmas is that it comes once a year not once a month. Don't get sucked into it. Do special things with your children (celebrate spring, Easter, summer etc etc) but don't try & make it Christmas all year. Sorry to be a Grinch, but it's madness.

JuliannaBixby · 24/01/2018 18:38

Seriously? What on earth has Rudolph got to do with anything? You'll all be sick of Christmas by about June Confused

ciaa · 24/01/2018 18:38

It's a bit much. Christmas won't be as special if it's celebrated every month.

ScreamingValenta · 24/01/2018 18:40

Oh, I wish it could be Christmas every mo-o-nth ... Xmas Grin

I think I would get bored with it. Why not just have a monthly treat day, without the Rudolph reference?

Fekko · 24/01/2018 18:41

But it’s burns night on the 25th!

Isadora2007 · 24/01/2018 18:41

I thought Rudolph days were more about Xmas prep and not like mini Xmas celebrations?

ShowOfHands · 24/01/2018 18:42

Oh op, all these people who know you better than you know yourself and also have the monopoly on what Christmas IS to all people. I think it sounds lovely. Why not if it makes you happy?

I'm making patchwork quilts as gifts for next Christmas and have already started. Is that okay Christmas Keepers?

user187656748 · 24/01/2018 18:45

I am sick of christmas having just had it. Doing it every month would be awful.

VivaJen · 24/01/2018 20:50

Rudolph Day comes from Organized Christmas and it’s a way to spread the Christmas organisation throughout the year. It’s not about celebrating Christmas every month. For example the January “task” is about clearing up loose ends and starting to get organised.

Personally I’m not doing anything tomorrow (working crazy hours) but on Saturday I will be sorting out my ‘Gift Shelf’ and planning all the birthdays for the year and I’ll probably have a coffee or hot chocolate in a Christmas mug that I keep just for that.

Do what makes you happy and if you’re sick of Christmas it’s probably best to leave the Christmas section.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 24/01/2018 20:51

I like the sound of the rudolf days being part of an organized Christmas

Is it a website?

VivaJen · 24/01/2018 20:58

Yup, have a look at Organized Christmas. It’s American and some things aren’t much use but I found some of it to be really useful and the last couple of years that I have spread my Christmas planning throughout the year to be much easier and less stressful. 🎄

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 24/01/2018 21:02

Will do

I have a bujo and it was quite useful this year just to transfer 2016 lists and plans over

But i was still sorking out food in November and that would be dead easy to do in February

VivaJen · 24/01/2018 21:11

Absolutely, I think when it’s still wintery it’s really easy to think about Christmas food. One of my ‘Rudolph Tasks’ is to gather together my Christmas recipes and have them in one place.

I got some festive washi tape for my Bujo spreads

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 24/01/2018 21:13

I do have a separate place for my recipes

I look at them every year and go

"Oh that would be nice to make...no one will eat it"

" ohhhh that looks nice....no one willl eat it'

elQuintoConyo · 24/01/2018 21:23

I sew something. Or doodle card ideas. Or hoover up some Christmas leftovers - found Ritz crackers in the futility room today, we only eat them at Christmas. I have some membrillo left and will put it on my crackers tomorrow with some peppery cheese OMFG so looking forward to that!

I'm not usually alone, i have two dear friends who I Rudolph with, but one moved back to the States and one emigrated to Colombia for 3 years Sad

NoWordForFluffy · 24/01/2018 21:29

Ooh, Viva, I think I'm going to put my online recipes into the lovely notebook the DC got me for Christmas tomorrow. Great idea!

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/01/2018 21:31

What, what, honestly what madness is this?

NoWordForFluffy · 25/01/2018 06:34

One that you don't have to join in with if you're not keen! Xmas Grin

This is the Christmas section of Mumsnet; best not to stray in if it's not your thing! 🎅

elQuintoConyo · 25/01/2018 07:55

My Rudolph Day does not include my 6yo, that way lies madness!

Next month i will re-hem the Christmas tablecloth.

It doesn't have to be a huge faffy day for me, i don't need Christmas tea (although i have only a little left and it might go a bit funky by the end of the year) and i don't play Christmas music.

DH doesn't bat an eyelash.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/01/2018 08:06

my 'plan' was to make a list of the things i bought but didn't use.
look through the fridge and pantry

i have a block of wendsleydale that didn't manage to meet up with the cake
and 2 mini puddings still sitting there

irl , i am hoaching with flu -on day 5 now- so it'll all be on hold Xmas Sad

whattoweartomorrow · 25/01/2018 08:10

I love Christmas, but ideas like this make it much less special.

Why would your children look forward to Christmas if you have a mini-Christmas every month? Would you really take time out of a two week holiday in Crete on the 25th August to do something Christmas-y?

I think it's a pretty terrible idea- getting prepared in September, allowing yourself to start thinking about it in October and getting excited from November, yes, but I think this idea strips the magic out.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/01/2018 08:16

It's not a mini Christmas though, is it? It's nothing like a mini Christmas, in fact!

Writing recipes into a notebook is just prep for this year. As is hemming a tablecloth.

If you're having a mini Christmas every 25th then it's not a Rudolph Day, it's something else entirely!

ShowOfHands · 25/01/2018 10:02

I love Christmas, but ideas like this make it much less special

in your opinion

Some people like planning. I'm also doing the odd bit of planning/listing/shopping for dd's residential trip in July, a camping trip in August, DD moving up to high school in September, as well as looking for things and making plans for upcoming birthdays and trips. Is this diluting the joy or enjoying the prep?

If you don't like it, don't do it but don't deride and presume when you don't understand.
