Rudolph Days- what do you do?

I read on another thread about having a Rudolph day once a month on 25th- I hadn’t thought of that before but sounds a lovely way to put a little bit of Christmas sparkle into each month.
I’ve got a little Christmas pudding left over so was considering eating that and having a listen to Christmas Wonderland radio for a little while tomorrow. Could I ask for your ideas/ traditions?

I work for a charity helping vulnerable people and volunteer for 2 others. Just yesterday I spent time with my elderly, disabled neighbour fixing her fence and last night I restocked our community fridge (like a food bank). Can I live my life how I want now? Am I good enough? There is a delicious irony in deriding others whilst claiming moral superiority.

Crikey. People can post what they like and where they like. Of course. Long may it continue. They can also choose how they post and whether to be kind or derisive. That's the sad bit here.

Things that went down well: M&S -
Sausage roll garland
Crudités and dips
Melting Belgian chocolate pudding - it tasted okay but my DC really loved the whole process of pouring the hot salted caramel on and watching the chocolate dome melt.
Waitrose mini savoury pies
Mini quiches (from Mary Berry's Christmas party(?))

Not so good:
Trifle (home made,) delicious but looks awful after the first portion has gone
Nut roast (boring)
Rodney reindeer mousse cake
Braised red cabbage

But we are the ones who just got called tossers! Delicious irony indeed Showy.

SallyLockhartsDog · 26/01/2018 08:02

Show is one of us Juliana. I believe this "They can also choose how they post and whether to be kind or derisive" is aimed at GF coming on a Christmas thread to deride those of us who enjoy Christmas for more than the "allowed" amount of days Wink.

Apologies if I have got that wrong Show!

VivaJen · 26/01/2018 08:30

Let’s just ignore the troll shall we?

Mrsmadevans · 26/01/2018 09:31

Sally the Sausage Garland sounds divine I will look for that in M & S, this Christmas thank you for sharing your best bits.

Genuine question: if it's not about prepping, why not celebrate the other (many) festivals that there are throughout the year? I wouldn't do this as it would really ruin (real) Christmas preparations for me and my kids. I agree that it makes them less special.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 26/01/2018 09:47

My understanding was that the OP had heard of rudolf days thought it was mini Christmas traditions and came on to talk about it

It appears that it was originally intended for prepping

So im going to do that bit of it

But i am not hooking the Christmas mugs out of the attic...although i have a 'nightmare before Christmas one' Grin

BiddyPop · 26/01/2018 12:00

Maybe we should adopt a "Rufus" renegade reindeer day here! 🤶🏻

I need to think, soon, about where to spend it this year. As if we travel "home", we will need to book a cottage very soon (both family homes are too chaotic and there are only a few to rent locally).

ShowOfHands · 26/01/2018 12:40

I speak in general terms. I think it's my age. I just want everybody to be pleasant and friendly and happy and not call people tossers or sneer or wilfully misunderstand and other hippy crap. Except if you vote UKIP. I don't want to be friends with smelly kippers.

Ha, nobody does Showy. I'd rather befriend an actual kipper 🦈

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 26/01/2018 12:54

I think actual kippers are much maligned

The only two references i have for them is UKIP

Or the Fawlty Towers sketch...The Kipper and the corpse

Show of hands, why bring politics and the way people vote into a thread about Rudolf Days? - I vote conservative but have many friends whom vote UKIP. Does that mean I should sever my friendship with them? I respect everyone to vote for any party they such choose because different issues are relevant to different people, situations and beliefs. I’ve never heard such tripe on here to pick a friendship on your preferred political party. If it was said in jest then I apologise. It just gets my back up with how judgemental people can be because of the fact it doesn’t fit their own preferences. Much like this thread. If people want to use the 25th of each month to do some prep for Xmas then so be it, good on them. 11 days of some Xmas prep a year is good planning rather than anything else.
