and I haven't paid attention, cos I live in rural Kent and we've been seriously lacking in Aldi / Lidl options...
But a customer told me today, that there is a new Aldi only 1/2 hour away and as I'm not rolling in it this Xmas, thought it would be worth going...
so I am yet to buy any goodies, cakes, crisps, chocolate and alcohol.. I need a nice red under £10 and a pinot grigio the same please...
Can I please persuade you to recommend again? Thanks xx

the bags for life that say "nuttier than a fruitcake" on them.

Chrisinthemorning · 22/12/2017 17:02

Well don’t buy the chocolate orange mince pies they were horrible.
Chocolate covered stollen bites on the other hand Xmas Wink

Ingles2 · 22/12/2017 17:04

sounds like the bags for me! and avoiding the choice orange mince pies... actually I would have avoided them anyway, sound a bit suspect! :D
ooo I didn't mention cheese? do they have good cheese?

I always worry about things called "bites" though, they are usually way too small and I have bitten the whole packet in 20mins...

Ahhhhh the one brand pepperamis are so nice and nicer than the branded according to my dc.

Corner yoghurts faux fruit corners -not read the labels but reckon they have less sugar and fat due to taste.

Pizza

Profiteroles

Cereal - they have own brand of everything but also crunchy peanut with chocolate bits in it it's bloody lovely.

All the fruit veg and meat

Sometimes they have frozen risotto god it's lovely but not seen it for a while think it was white wine and mushroom

Pretty much everything but I pretty much only shop in Lidl and aldi

dementedma · 22/12/2017 17:14

everything bar the fruit and veg unless you are using it up quickly. Their wines are great. Torro Loco for an easy drinking red, the Malbec is lovely and often recommended in wine articles. Cold meats are good, chocolate is good, and they have lots of lovely Christmas nibbles in at the moment. If you can get the Sloe Gin mince pies, snap them up. Ours has sold out

I get the lebkuchen every time i'm in there, and then eat the whole bag in one go. So good. Also the stollen is very nice, and the cheese selection is surprisingly good.

thepatchworkcat · 22/12/2017 17:18

All the treats and yes, cheese.

Cheese straws
Fancy pastry biscuit things
Lebkuchen
Fake Ferrero Rocher
Any of their chocolate
Nuts eg wasabi or bbq almonds or choc coated macadamias

They do good wine/prosecco although I don’t know which off the top of my head, DH usually does a bit of googling first

doodlejump1980 · 22/12/2017 17:21

Their soda bread is amazing

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 22/12/2017 17:23

Went to aldi first time this week, their beef wellington was nice BUT went to buy a turkey crown and misread the label was £60 not as cheap as people say IMO

Abra1d · 22/12/2017 17:23

I am never tempted by anything. Occasionally I might buy some fruit or veg in season.

Ingles2 · 22/12/2017 17:24

Oh you Star thank you everyone ...

Sorry, pushed Post too soon.

Bought some GF stuff for my coeliac son but he didn’t really like it.

Ingles2 · 22/12/2017 17:27

Eeeeee I'm getting excited! So I'm compiling list from your recommendations...
Ds' eat loads of cereal so that's brilliant shout

What put you off Abra1d?

OP posts:
Abra1d · 22/12/2017 17:37

The GF stuff didn’t taste good and it’s not worth driving to there to save a bit on fruit and veg. Sometimes I pick up some cheap almonds if I’m passing by and they have them in.

Ingles2 · 22/12/2017 17:56

ah ok... am still at work, have too wait for one of my sons to get of the bus first....
my shop neightbour was just telling me that aldi slaps you with carpark fines though... is that true?

Some speciality fudge, there's a few flavours. Delicious!

Alicetherabbit · 23/12/2017 07:34

Red wine, Toro loco is 3.99 a bottle and amazing, it's on the bottom shelf, I buy all my anti pasta and camembert there. Fruit and veg is always fresher and cheaper.
Avoid the aisles in the middle, that's the weekly specials and I end up buying heaps of stuff I didn't got for.
They had some amazing looking party food in this week.

Steak (rump, sirloin and filet all really good)
