I love reading the 'what have you bought for DC' threads but don't think I've seen one for GPs (or any other family members!)

Please don't turn this into a judgy thread as sometimes happens with present threads, can we just live and let live...

So

DS1 (15)
From my parents: Bluetooth earphones, Vans beanie, Batman calendar.
From MIL: Star Wars lava lamp, wallet.

DD (10)
My parents: 3D pen, emoji backpack, Roald Dahl colouring book.
MIL: Bead jewellery kit, Pass the Pen game.

DS2 (8)
My parents: Spy goggles, Lego 'Everything to know' book, thinking putty.
MIL: Lego Ninjago clock, monkey puppet.

Not sure what my mum's getting DS (11mo)

DP's Mum is getting him a Thomas walker and his Dad and stepmum are paying for swimming lessons.

I8toys · 18/12/2017 05:42

They are getting £500 each from in laws and £50 from my parents. Crazy amount - straight in savings.

Chrisinthemorning · 18/12/2017 06:12

DS (5)
From my parents- Lego, also various books, clothes and bits and pieces.
They also paid for us to go to Lapland for 3 nights which was very generous.
MIL- playmobil hospital and a few books, maybe PJs.

MrsPringles · 18/12/2017 06:24

Ds is 3 and will be getting an Imaginext Jokers Laff Factory and Bat Man Cave from MIL.

The Joker thing is ALL HE TALKS ABOUT and sits looking at it in the Smyths catalogue. He will be over the moon and I can’t wait to see his face when he finally gets it

ImogenTubbs · 18/12/2017 06:27

Don't know everything they are getting but PiLs are buying DD (aged 4) a My Little Pony suitcase and various battery powered soft toys. My DM&DP is getting her a musical jewelry box (you know the kind you open and the little ballerina goes round) and a dress.

Cagliostro · 18/12/2017 06:42

Whatever I buy! My parents and grandma prefer to give me money so I just get what I want to and then label things from them - usually a bigger item as they are quite generous. Any leftover money goes on their clubs. Works well for us :)

I think my mum has picked up a few little things though, she is very excited about the new baby :o

PIL who we don't see much due to distance have sent jammies as usual, I love how excited the kids get about that :)

Her0utdoors · 18/12/2017 06:55

Nothing from my side, either dead or indifferent. In-laws: what ever that they feel good buying- it's not the receiving that counts. Asking for something useful/ non duplicated would be the hight of rudeness apperently. ( I didn't get much sleep last night, can you tell?).

Glitterspy · 18/12/2017 07:07

Slight swerve of the thread sorry (DS has a December birthday and was 2 this weekend) and MIL, who is not short of a bob or two, gave him a used wooden building blocks set, in a used and dusty plastic box, very clearly from the charity shop where she occasionally volunteers. I'm not a snob and a gift is a gift so we accepted and thanked her with good grace, but really! Is it supposed to be an insult do you think?! She gave our nephew an electric guitar for his birthday, for context.

reluctantbrit · 18/12/2017 07:08

From my mum a horse calendar and the PIL buy us all Harry Potter studio tickets as a family present this year.

Cagliostro · 18/12/2017 07:08

DCs may also get a fiver each from PIL, which they love as they don't tend to get much spending money. They are the only grandchildren on my side and the 19-21st on DH's side!

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 18/12/2017 07:09

My mum has got DD (4) a pair of red, sparkly party shoes. These are likely to be the major hit of Christmas!

mumof2sarah · 18/12/2017 07:13

DD1 13
My ps: money (she asked for that) and some little wrap ups like socks etc.
DP ps: don't have a clue, she never tells us and the. Goes grumpy if we've bought anything the same 🙄 usually jewellery/clothes/stationary

DD2 6
My ps: barbie things and little wraps up as above
DP ps: a dolls pram (she already has 3 and didn't need one and we only got told because FIL let it slip) and then usually clothes and art things (again moans if we've bought her anything even slightly similar 🙄)

Hence why I rarely have anything to do with them 😂🙈

RaeSkywalker · 18/12/2017 07:17

My parents are getting DS(1) a gorgeous wooden sledge, hat and mittens, and some books.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 18/12/2017 07:20

DC are 5 and 2.

My Dad is making them wooden "treasure" boxes to keep their special things in. DS's will be pirate themed and Dd's will be pink and princessy (she's hit that stage).
He's going to put plastic crowns and chocolate coins in them and they will both have a false bottom so they can put "secret" stuff in them.

My Mum is buying some paw patrol figures each.

DH's parents have form for going overboard but don't have time to buy this year as they are in the middle of selling up and moving abroad. They have sent some money which we have spent on a paw patrol boat for DS and the happy land fairy tree plays et for Dd.

YellowMakesMeSmile · 18/12/2017 07:20

Cash from MIL to spend on whatever they like, who know from FIL.

In the lady we've used wishlists or just shopped for them.

Ragwort · 18/12/2017 07:25

No ILs

My parents will give our DS (16) cash - they are incredibly generous but appreciate how difficult it is to get it exactly right for a teenager. My DM did make him a really lovely calendar with a different 'treat' each day - some were money, some choc coins and some challenges - ie 'wash grandma's car and we will take you out for a pizza' type thing. Grin. My DM is very innovative and creative - not bad at 85 !!

They also put substantial savings away for him every year in a savings account - he doesn't know about this but it will cover university fees or house deposit when the time comes (NB: do the same for their other DGC).

mumof2sarah · 18/12/2017 07:34

@Ragwort I LOVE you dm that idea is genius and such a lovely thing 😍

wendz86 · 18/12/2017 08:55

Dd1 (6) - from my parents bop it game .
Not sure from ex mil . Ex Fil will probably forget .
Dd2 (2) - dolls high chair and travel cot from my parents .
Sylvanian house from ex mil . And as before probably nothing from ex fil .

sinceyouask · 18/12/2017 08:57

My older boys have asked for football shirts- one Man Utd and one Man City- and ds3 I think is getting Brio and a PJ Masks duvet cover.

Camomila · 18/12/2017 09:10

DS (20m)
Megablocks from PIL
'Magnetic transport puzzle' from my parents...essentially fridge magnets shaped like bits of cars you try and match up.

DM really wanted to get him a toy pizza (he loves the one at playgroup) but couldn't find any.

Juanbablo · 18/12/2017 13:44

My parents are dead but the in laws are getting ds2 (3) Ben 10 figures, dd (7) Our Generation doll and ds2 (10) Crash Bandicoot PS4 game plus £20 to make the value spent equal.

Juanbablo · 18/12/2017 13:45

Camomila I think Melissa and Doug do a wooden pizza. I've seen them in The Entertainer and you can buy them in Argos and on Amazon.

HamishBamish · 18/12/2017 13:46

Not sure! They usually give them something small and then put some money into their bank accounts. They do pay for quite a lot during the year though (skiing lessons, days out etc), so don't tend to go overboard with presents at Christmas.

DeepfriedPizza · 18/12/2017 13:49

A keyboard from DH's parents
A microphone from My parents

fucking marvelous

Atticusss · 18/12/2017 13:56

my mum usually asks me to buy something for my 3 and reimburses me and takes it to wrap. I love this, makes it easy and they don't get any crap. She usually says about £50 but usually I choose something cheaper. This year it's a swimming my little pony for dd10, collection of my little ponys I'm a set for dd4 and Little Bird clothes and a baby doll for ds1.

MIL usually gives them cash, about £20 and a few little bits like stickers books to open. They've never had a big present from her. She gives little things like that throughout the year though, lots of ,magazines and pocket money for holidays and theatre trips, souvenirs from her holidays etc
