Iron-on patches - help?!

I've bought some iron-on patches with the logo of a favourite band for DP.

The zip on his gym bag has broken and I wanted to buy a new one for him and iron them on... But the material for all of those that I can find online is shiny, waterproof-y stuff - presumably that won't work, will it?!

Will I have to sew them instead? Or can anyone find a gym bag with an iron-able material? Will sewing even work well on waterproof stuff?!

Help.

You can sew on iron on patches just use lots of pins to hold in place as it’s ackward with the thickness of the glue stuff that makes them iron on.

What is his current gym bag like? Would it have to be a “sporty” brand? I would get a canvas one, the patches will iron on then and you can usually chuck them in the wash too. Jack Wills and the like always have canvas duffel/gym bags.

Great shout Renarde - I’ve found a fab JW canvas one on an outlet site - thank you!
