I never get this right - either there’s loads left over that gets chucked away, or I feel like there’s something missing off the plate. What do you do? (besides roast potatoes, they don’t count!)

And yes to bread sauce. Vital!

Roast potatoes Jamie Oliver style
Parsnips
Sprouts with bacon
Peas with onions
Honey glazed carrots
Home made cranberry
Pigs in blankets, stuffing, more pigs in blankets
Jamie’s gravy
Turkey and cold pork

Might do red cabbage this year, though those creamed leeks sound fab.

Always over cook, bubble and squeak for breakfast the next day (best bit)

We (I say we, but mean dh) do roast potatoes, broccoli, carrots, maple syrup parsnips, peas, leek sauce and Brussel sprouts in some sort of chestnut, pancetta thing.

Gettinglikemynother

Some vegetables are far better reheated - red cabbage being one

A hostess is ideal for keeping vegetables hot in so people can help themselves to veg and the foods not getting cold. Great for warming plates

Roast potatoes
Mashed potatoes
Roasted purple carrots
Broccoli
Peas
Cauliflower cheese
Stuffing ball
Pigs in blankets
Cranberry sauce
Bread sauce
Yorkshire puddings
Gravy

I did a practice run of Yorkshire Puddings in the halogen oven (its glass so I can watch them rise and brown) gets up to a really high temperature and because its seperate, they don;t need to keep everything else waiting or risk opening the oven.

I used one of those foil muffin trays (6 Yorkshires) so not the mahoosive number my DS scoffs but they were delicious, much better than Aunt Bessies.

So , that's sorted Xmas Grin (though I'll have some frozen ones just in case they go Pete Tong)

Parsnips and peppers sound good!
Ok I think I am settled on:
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Yorkies
Gravy
Bread sauce
Cranberry sauce
Roasties
And for the veg component:
Maple roast parsnips and shallots
Wilted chard
The last is a bit random but OH has heard it somewhere and now has his heart set on it. It sounds good though I think, green, light and lemony, a good counterpoint to all the greasy saltiness!

I aim to live on leftovers until the New Year. Roast potatoes and parsnips, carrots, petits pois, red cabbage, gravy, Yorkshire puds mainly for the kids, turkey, meat and bread stuffings, chipolatas. Maybe some snazzy broccoli or beans.

The Yorkshires are ready-made.

Saladtongs · 21/12/2017 20:48

Any left over veg gets turned into a veg curry or veg biryani to accompany the left over roast that will be turned into a curry. Nowt goes to waste in the salad household.
