Am thinking of doing cauliflower cheese this year with the dinner.

Is it a good addition?

Can I make it the day before then bung in oven christmas day?

We do when we go for Xmas dinner with MIL. Delicious! No idea how to cook it as I can't cook Blush

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 15/12/2017 08:04

No way. I love cauliflower cheese but it really doesn't go with roast dinners. I'm sure making it the day before would be fine though if you do.

MsJolly · 15/12/2017 08:04

Hell no!

Butterymuffin · 15/12/2017 08:05

Of course! Love it. We make ours the day before.

Yes, love it. But it works better with roast beef rather than turkey. Do it.

Oblomov17 · 15/12/2017 08:09

No. Only because we have steamed broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and peas.

Snowman41 · 15/12/2017 08:10

No. Until a few months back I had never even heard of this but some freinds took me to a carvery chain place and they did it. Really really weird combination imo. Not to mention extra work you don't really need on Christmas Day.

MrsMotherHen · 15/12/2017 08:12

We are having lamb and turkey. So far menu is.
Turkey joint
Leg of lamb
Pigs in blanket
Bacon wrapped stuffing balls
Roast potatoes
Yorkshire puds
Roast carrots and parsnips
Red cabbage
Sprouts
Brocolli and carrots steamed
Cauliflower cheese?
Gravy

Its all serve your self style so seems a bit much for 6 adults and 2 babies.

No, but I’d be pleased if it was there.

BroomstickOfLove · 15/12/2017 08:13

No. I think that it would overpower the bread sauce by being creamy but also tasting if cheese and cauliflower.

GalactiCat · 15/12/2017 08:14

Oh hell yes. In fact I'm doing cauliflower and broccoli cheese bake.
(I'd have cauliflower cheese with everything if I had my way!)

gunsandbanjos · 15/12/2017 08:15

Absolutely!! It’s great with a roast.

TheScottishPlay · 15/12/2017 08:16

Yes, I will be. DM and DH enjoy a little with their roast beef. DS and I have it as part of our veggie dinner.

Nanasueathome · 15/12/2017 08:18

Cauliflower cheese is compulsory with Christmas dinner in my house

Checklist · 15/12/2017 08:18

We have it because DD loves it! I make enough for 7 people, and given the chance she would eat all of it!

DivisionBelle · 15/12/2017 08:36

No, and we don’t have Yorkshires either.

I don’t think it goes with turkey or beef.

But no reason why you can’t if you like it.

Ninepence · 15/12/2017 08:39

No no no.

(I'm also in the 'no jelly in a trifle' camp, is there a thread this year?)

ThunderboltsLightning · 15/12/2017 08:42

Never at christmas but i do sometimes have it with a roast. I love the cheesy gravy Blush

Crumbs1 · 15/12/2017 08:43

Yes we always have cauliflower cheese. Lots don’t like bread sauce or gravy but want something more moist with the turkey.
We also have Yorkshire puddings even though we don’t have beef. It feels slightly naughty but it’s by popular demand.

flissfloss65 · 15/12/2017 08:45

I lovecauliflower cheese but don't like the idea of it with a roast. I love gravy across my dinner and dislike the idea of it mixing with the cheese.

FireflyGirl · 15/12/2017 08:47

Absolutely! But then I'm not a fan of gravy, so would otherwise have a dry dinner.

It's a case of the more the merrier in our family. DM forgot the Yorkshires in the oven one Christmas Day, and nearly had a riot on her hands...

SpartonDregs · 15/12/2017 08:48

Not usually but might do this year, we are veggie and it will go down a treat.

gingerclementine · 15/12/2017 08:52

No. Too rich.

I like:
Turkey
pork, apricot, sage and walnut stuffing
pigs in blankets
roast potatoes
charentay carrots
roast parsnips
sprouts
DC will have peas, broccoli or romanesco as they hate sprouts
Bread sauce for DH
Cranberry sauce
Gravy

I'd love red cabbage but am the only one.

That's enough. If the veg are too fatty and rich there's no room for Christmas pud and I LOVE Christmas pudding.
