Am thinking of doing cauliflower cheese this year with the dinner.

Is it a good addition?

Can I make it the day before then bung in oven christmas day?

Yes, always have cauliflower cheese. We are part vegetarian, but the meat eaters enjoy it as well. I don't do bread sauce though.

I steam the cauliflower, pour over sauce and leave to go cold. Put in the oven to reheat while the meat is resting. I think it tastes better reheated.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/12/2017 08:56

No, but only because it's another dish to go in the oven! (and wash up).

Hulder · 15/12/2017 08:59

No. There is more than enough dinner without it.

Duck we hate turkey
2 sorts of stuffing
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Sprouts
Red cabbage
Caramelised potatoes token nod to Scandi heritage
Chipolatas
Cranberry sauce
Bread sauce
Gravy

Where is there room in the plate for cauliflower cheese? Plus are you expecting the cook to have a nervous breakdown?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/12/2017 09:01

No.

SealSong · 15/12/2017 09:02

I'm thinking about doing cauliflower cheese this year also. I think it is becoming more popular with roasts.

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 15/12/2017 09:47

We are this year because we're having rib of beef and it does really well with that.

Larrytheleprechaun · 15/12/2017 10:46

Yes

Serin · 15/12/2017 11:02

Yes because we cater for vegetarians and it goes well with nut roasts. Easy to reheat if you do it the day before.

MinorRSole · 15/12/2017 11:23

I love cauliflower cheese but don't have it with Christmas dinner. Mainly because I'm already doing a macaroni cheese for huffy sulkalot (teenage dd) but also because I do think it goes better with beef which we have for new year (turkey and gammon on the big day)

carrie74 · 15/12/2017 11:30

I think I did last year and will do this year (yes to preparing the day before too). No to bread sauce. Don't normally do Yorkshires, but might this year, depends on how it's all going. Yorkshires are all a bit last minute for me, when everything else is coming together.

QuiteLikeable · 15/12/2017 11:32

I wouldn't have it with a full roast dinner as it's so heavy, but I'd have it on Boxing Day with random turkey/ham leftovers mmmmmmmmm

notacooldad · 15/12/2017 11:41

No, and we don’t have Yorkshires either.
No Yorkshire's? What the hell?
They are the star attraction!

Kit30 · 15/12/2017 11:45

We've done it for years because it's BIL's favourite and he's not ken on most veg. Also Yorkshire Pudding with Turkey is now 'traditional' for us since I made it when we had unexpected extra guests. DNs insist on it.

IHeartKingThistle · 15/12/2017 11:52

We have leeks in cheese. It's AWESOME.

steppemum · 15/12/2017 11:55

No way. Because:

  1. the cheese sauce doesn't go well with bread sauce
  2. the cheese sauce doesn't go well with gravy (yuck)
  3. You already have a unbelievable amount for one meal. you already have SIX vegetables!!!
steppemum · 15/12/2017 12:00

No yorshires here either.
But then we only do yorshires with beef, as it should be.
and one type of meat - turkey, plaus pigs in blankets.

The ham comes out on Christmas evening!

VeganIan · 15/12/2017 12:51

Yes. And bread sauce. Multiple wet stuff to eat was a consequence legacy of my mother's dried up turkey. You have to use pigs in blankets as a dam to prevent contamination of the cheese sauce with the bread sauce. Cauli cheese is brilliant with gammon as well.

MotherofKitties · 15/12/2017 12:54

I always do cauliflower/broccoli cheese with a roast and will do so for Christmas Day! I get how some people dont like the combination of gravy and cheese sauce but I love it! Xmas Grin

MinorRSole · 15/12/2017 12:55

* l. you already have SIX vegetables!!!* Do I? What am I supposed to have? We have parsnips, carrots and sprouts - none of us like Swede. What am I missing?

CabernetSauvignyoni · 15/12/2017 12:56

Yep! It must not touch the gravy though...

Chocolatear · 15/12/2017 12:58

I will be cooking it to go with our Christmas lunch.
I'm cooking for the in-laws and MIL is a bit weird about vegetables. Cauliflower cheese and parsnips are on the acceptable list!

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 15/12/2017 12:58

No dosent go with gravy!!

VeganIan · 15/12/2017 13:07

For those of you worried about gravy contamination, that's what you have hundreds of ex-Gu ramekins for.

MrsMotherHen · 15/12/2017 13:17

I know we have alot of veg we love our veggies and its all serve your self in dishes on the table not everyone will have everything listed. I would not normally do brocolli but my husband loves the stuff and thought "normal" carrots for people who dont like them roasted. Xmas Blush

No purely due to a lack of oven space. Would love it, I will be having it for New Years day.
