Am thinking of doing cauliflower cheese this year with the dinner.

Is it a good addition?

Can I make it the day before then bung in oven christmas day?

Yes, do it! We have broccoli cheese in our house and IMO is goes just fine with gravy! I do love the sides more than the meat on Christmas Day though tbh!

Juanbablo · 15/12/2017 13:24

We did last year but I don't think I will this year. I love it though. Broccoli cheese is even better.

MrsMotherHen · 15/12/2017 13:29

We have lots of oven space 3 ovens, a grill, slow cooker with warm setting, A halogen Oven, two microwaves (SIL bringing hers) and a veg steamer. So fingers crossed I think we have enough space.

Definitely steamed carrots and roasted. I love them both ways so have them both!

MachineBee · 15/12/2017 13:33

Hell yes!!!!! Cauliflower cheese with turkey and roasties is the best combo!

Janetjanetjanet · 15/12/2017 13:40

Er, yes, cauliflower cheese is always a good idea!

inniu · 15/12/2017 13:48

Definitely. Will do 4 types of potatoes, 5 or 6 veg and people can just chose the ones they like.

ApplesinmyPocket · 15/12/2017 13:51

Well not in this house and I'm not just saying that because I hate cauliflower. Cheese anything takes over, doesn't it? and surely doesn't fit right with a roast dinner. But I think I'm in a minority here.

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/12/2017 13:53

Yes, the more the merrier on a Christmas dinner

LizzieSiddal · 15/12/2017 13:54

No because it’s too rich. You can have too much of a good thing!

Hiphopopotamus · 15/12/2017 13:55

CAULIFLOWER IS NOT TRADITIONAL Angry

HemanOrSheRa · 15/12/2017 13:56

Yes! Though this year I am cheating and ordered a Booths cauliflower cheese. I love the cheesy gravy. I also like a couple of spoonfuls mashed into my boxing day bubble and squeak.

Hiphopopotamus · 15/12/2017 13:57

(Really hoping that people see I’m making a Peep Show reference - not just being a dick!)

Taffeta · 15/12/2017 13:58

Not Xmas Day but hosting big lunch with ham on 27th and will do it with that.

How do I make it gluten free?

stoplickingthetelly · 15/12/2017 14:10

No we're not. Mil did it a few years ago, I do like it, but not with a roast. Not keen on the cheese/gravy mix. This year we're having; turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, roast potatoes, carrot and swede mash, honey and mustard roast parsnips, sprouts, red cabbage, gravy and cranberry sauce. There's 3 adults and 2 young children.

cathyclown · 15/12/2017 14:35

Just us two for dinner Christmas Day, happy days! I cannot wait to get into the PJs after the morning visitations and slob around. First time to have the day to ourselves.

Salmon on crutches for us (en croute), usual spuds, roast root veg, and CAULI CHEESE! Keeping it simple enough as you can see.

Caulie cheese is a must here, sometimes eaten on its own.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/12/2017 16:37

No, although we all like it and it'd go down well. Just too much faff with everything else that needs to be done last minute. I wouldn't even think of cooking cauliflower in advance - IMO it's another thing needing to go more or less straight from pan to plate if it's going to be really nice.

steppemum · 15/12/2017 17:32

I am really amazed at some of these.

We have huge filled plates on Christmas day, I honestly don't know how we would fit more in, ,but we only seem to have ha;f the number of veg and potatoes as some of you.

No wonder Christmas dinner is so stressful to cook!

minor - when I said you already have 6 veg, that was becuase the OP had posted her menu, with 6 veg on it!

We have:
turkey
2 types stuffing one in each end of turkey
pigs in blankets
roast potatoes
roast parsnips
carrots (oven baked grated, Granny's delicious recipe)
sprouts
bread sauce
cranberry sauce
gravy.

that's it!

cathyclown · 15/12/2017 17:34

Some of your plates must be the size of a manhole cover to fit all that food in!

JaneEyre70 · 15/12/2017 17:35

Oh yes yes yes!! We always have it, if I'm feeling really adventurous we have cauliflower and broccoli together!! {grin].

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 15/12/2017 17:37

We do. I tend to do cauli and broccoli cheese with a few mushrooms. I put mustard in the sauce too.

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/12/2017 17:41

Mushrooms?
Oh no, that's all wrong.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 15/12/2017 17:50

Will have cauliflower but not contaminate it with cheese sauce. Christmas dinner is all about the veg I’m having roast potatoes and parsnips. Carrot, cauliflower, green beans, brocolli, red cabbage with apple, sprouts (but won’t do many because not many eat them) and peas for the fussy. Admitting don’t have huge quantities of any of these but I like to have a little bit of each. But you’ll all think I’m loopy anyway cause I don’t like pigs in blankets!

MrsPringles · 15/12/2017 17:59

No. Because it’s grim.

Efnisien · 15/12/2017 18:03

A big,fat yes from me!Scooping up chhesr sauce with huge roasties is my idea of heaven Grin
