My dd has the Melissa and Doug folding wooden castle - it's a little bit pink but very sturdy and lots of lovely play value - also deal of the day on amazon today!

I second Melissa & Doug for a wooden one, we have the fold & go castle and they still both play with it aged 9 & 6.
For plastic there is a great Imaginext one that has an interactive dragon you can get to go with it.

We have had the holztiger one for a few years now. It's a bit pricey but fantastic quality.

This well-made wooden one www.mulberrybush.co.uk/camelot-castle
Or this Lego-style one www.wilko.com/toys-gifts/wilko-blox-castle-mega-set/invt/0438408

My DS has this one. It's a Papo one. Brilliant quality.

We paid only £17 for it despite it being so expensive everywhere - at least twice amazon have reduced it to that!

It doesn't look very big in that photo but it's a great size.

I would go for the playmobile one.
We bought one for DS a few years ago and he loves it, it’s had tones of use. When we were choosing which one to get DS told me ‘not wood’ because I kept pointing out lovely looking wooden ones, he liked the plastic ones!

I hated the playmobile one. Too many fiddly bits and the whole thing kept breaking apart. My kids virtually never played with it.
