Just looking at my rather minimalist fireplace. I've got the tree next toit and a little wreath thing on the lower part of the mantelpiece but nothing on the actual shelf or on the picture above.

What shall I do?

Candles? In sparkly holders?
Is it a functioning fireplace?

JaneWonder · 12/12/2017 06:40

I put fairy lights around the mirror that hangs above our mantle. I also put a nativity on the mantle.

Christmasrage it is functioning but I'm in Oz so it's definitely not on. Xmas Grin

Candles I don't want to do because of it being such a hot dry country...I'm too forgetful and knowing my luck I'll burn the house down and start a bushfire. I'm in that sort of area.

Jane Never even considered fairy lights! Good idea!

Fairy lights wrapped around eucalyptus branches?

A koala dressed as an elf?

A kangaroo with tinsel and baubles in her pouch?

Yes to fairy lights, also there are some realistic looking fake candles, I use them year round. If you don't use your fireplace, you can decorate inside it.
My mil put crystal angel musicians and crystal evergreen trees on hers.

Google or pinterest "minimalist mantel for xmas" and tons of lovely ones come up.
You could do something like this in the fireplace.
