It's time to ice the cake! (This weekend...)

Have you seen any lovely festive cake decorating ideas that you'd care to share, or have made successfully in the past? I usually just stick our little plastic "Merry Christmas" sign and fake holly sprigs on top of white icing, but am keen to make a bit more of an effort this year! :)

I have a snowflake cutter , I I've the cake in coloured fondant, last year it was marbled blue,it was supposed to be all the same colour but I loved the effect.I then cut out snowflakes and sprinkled them with sparkly sugar, could also use edible glitter , and arranged them on the cake. Dead simple but effective

Are you using fondant or royal icing?

No preference at the moment! I'll do whatever looks best, I guess?

(You can tell I don't do things like this very often... :D )

I have put a layer on fondant on top of the cake, then covered normally. Used a star cutter to remove stars from then top layer of fondant, and filled the holes with silver balls.

I cover in white fondant and then arrange 3 white silk roses on the top with fake berries between them, very simple and sophisticated looking (if i say so myself 😁). I would post a picture but havent done it yet!
