Do you like Christmas Eve boxes?

I'm not sure whether to do one this year. I kind of feel that present giving should be on Christmas Day. OTOH it's making the most of Christmas perhaps?

I did Christmas Eve boxes last year, a new mug, hot choc and new pyjamas.
Ds 2 dropped his mug and broke it and then cried, dc3 spilt the hot chocolate on her new pyjamas and cried and dc1 didn't like hot chocolate and only wanted to wear his onesie. No Christmas Eve boxes this year! Plus I've already spent enough on Christmas presents.

I always like my comfy, familiar PJs as a child. No newness to get used to.

Whisky2014 · 16/12/2017 20:29

I'm 31 no kids. My fiance mum does one for us and I love them! New jammies hot choc and DVD usually.

lottieandmia22 · 17/12/2017 09:43

That's a good point MsHarry. Why do we need to make everything in our lives look perfect in photos?

Presumably you all have children who grow from year to year too though?

ClothEaredBint · 17/12/2017 16:25

Who the hell gets showered/dressed before opening presents?

We all amble downstairs, mom puts the kettle on, then we sit around the tree in pjs, slippers and dressing gowns while we open presents.
If we've bought them new dressing gowns, they're usually the first presents handed over.

The kids all play with their new stuff while the adults make breakfast which we sit at the table for.

Then we get dressed about 11ish before we go to the pub for a pre-lunch drink.

annandale · 17/12/2017 17:46

Not the stockings to be fair Cloth, but certainly when I was growing up we had presents after church, these days we're not churchgoers but we still wait for guests to arrive late morning, so we're all washed and dressed before presents.

hazeyjane · 17/12/2017 19:03

Ds could (and does) wear pyjamas he's had since he was 3 (but he is unusually slow growing), it's still nice for him to have a new pair once a year!
Dd1s pyjamas from last year, on the other hand, are up to her knees this year!!

Aragog · 17/12/2017 20:39

Not us. Hence why new PJs are nice. Most for the morning is spent in PJs. We don't get dressed until all presents are opened, we've had something to eat and at least a couple of hot drinks have been had. Besides we might get new clothes as gifts - so then we might want to wear them!

Aragog · 17/12/2017 20:41

Just sit round with morning breath, ratty hair and in crumpled overnight pyjamas?

Well, I brush my hair and clean my teeth, but we don't get dressed. DD sleeps in her PJs so yes they are a bit crumpled I guess. Mine and DH's less so.

I’ve got a small Christmas Eve bag for dd

For me, it’s because I want to start passing down some of my mum’s traditions instead of it being all about what the pil think.

Inside it I’ll be putting
New pjs (mum always got us new pjs for Christmas Eve)
A small chocolate treat
Her night before Christmas book (that will come out every year)
A Christmas themed bubble bar from lush
The Snowman on dvd (it was always our tradition to watch this on Christmas Eve, so it will come out every year too)

iboughtsnowboots · 18/12/2017 12:23

Another person who does main presents after lunch so definitely washed and dressed before presents, not santa's stocking though.

Payfrozen · 18/12/2017 15:36

This thread has made me smile

People saying they love them and have been doing them for ages so there.

Others saying not for me but each to their own.

Others sniffily saying, " oh no. Too commercialised, too tacky, too expensive. I won't be doing any of it. Instead we keep it simple with santa in the morning, pizza express, a panto, iceskating and a takeaway." Hmm

No.

We do! I go to parkrun, my mum goes out for a walk and when we're all back (and showered) we crack open the Bucks fizz and start on the presents, about 10.30-11 I suppose. DS gets a stocking though which he can open while wearing his PJs.

We have table presents at lunch too. We usually eat around 2.

BiddyPop · 19/12/2017 09:28

We don't open presents until late afternoon. There's no rush and we have time to enjoy it then. After breakfast, showers, mass and other visits we need to make. It's when we get home to relax and unwind time.

DD does get her stocking in the morning though.
