I'm not sure whether to do one this year. I kind of feel that present giving should be on Christmas Day. OTOH it's making the most of Christmas perhaps?

No. I don't understand. Lots of people do lots of things I wouldn't do or can't afford to do. It's nothing to do with me and my life.

glitterglitters · 16/12/2017 04:50

Nope. I've succumbed to the self on the Shelf through peer pressure but Christmas Day is presents not Christmas Eve.

glitterglitters · 16/12/2017 04:52

Though it's worth pointing out my child has asked for pyjamas as her main present sooooo

steff13 · 16/12/2017 05:33

As for Christmas pyjamas??!! Wtf? What a monumental waste of money!

How are Christmas pajamas a bigger waste of money than any other pajamas? You know you don't only have to wear them on Christmas, right?

We get new pajamas on Christmas Eve, mostly it's so we don't look ratty in our Christmas morning pictures. We usually have cocoa and play a board game, but we don't buy anything special.

Haudyerwheesht · 16/12/2017 08:00

I do but non Christmassy PJ though even though we would wear Xmas ones all year round anyways. My kids also have always needed PJ so far but also surely you can never have too much slobbing about clothes? fears this says ALOT about me

Pannalash · 16/12/2017 08:34

Ha ha Glitter ‘self on the shelf’ have an image of you clambering up, you’ll be getting a visit from Elf and safety Xmas Grin

NewtsSuitcase · 16/12/2017 08:39

Over the past years the pyjamas mine have had on Christmas Eve have been:

spiderman onesies
stormtrooper onesies
marvel superheroes onesies
harry potter soft velvet hoodie and lounge pants (this years)

I can assure you they don't just get worn on christmas eve and then cast aside. Why would they? In fact DS2 has just come downstairs in his brothers stormtrooper onesie from two years ago which doesn't fit DS1 anymore but is ok for DS2.

Thedietstartsnow · 16/12/2017 08:44

Porkpie,I know kids that get less than that on Christmas Day.OTT

Aragog · 16/12/2017 08:47

Dd gets non-Christmas PJs. Which she wears all year round. But she is a big PJ fan - has lots of pairs. Doesn't grow out of them now as she's older so it's usually just replacing an older pair.

Winemamma · 16/12/2017 08:56

We are doing one for the first time this year. It’s not that big and is a lovely simple design. It contains non festive pjs for the kids, a dvd for them to watch, a book each and some chocolate.
I used to think they were just another fad but actually if it keeps them quiet for a bit whilst we get off organised then I think it should work well. They won’t have any toys in it, that will be saved for the big day.

ShotsFired · 16/12/2017 08:59

That's a bit grim. Don't people get showered/washed and dressed before getting the camera out? Just sit round with morning breath, ratty hair and in crumpled overnight pyjamas?

Raisedbyguineapigs · 16/12/2017 10:11

Blimey your kids must be much more patient than mine! No way would they wait to get showered and dressed before opening presents on Christmas day! They look fine in their pajamas with messy hair! They're my best pictures too!

chocolateavocado99 · 16/12/2017 10:35

We do pyjamas for the dcs but that is it. I have never heard of CE boxes before his thread.
I don't mind if they have messy hair in their morning pictures. That is real life, and i would never expect them to get showered before opening presents.

WeeMadArthur · 16/12/2017 10:35

I’m doing one for the first time this year, mainly because it’s a nice neat way of giving DS things I was giving him on Christmas Eve anyway. It has a new book to read that night, new pajamas, slippers, bubble bath and hot chocolate and marshmallows.

TheRebelHedgehog · 16/12/2017 11:03

I think there is a hell of a lot jealousy in this thread which people discuise by posting negative comments. Quite laughable really.....

Of people doing Christmas Eve boxes, giving pjs etc..... it’s really pretty obvious!!

formerbabe · 16/12/2017 11:24

My dc were so under whelmed the year I did Christmas Eve boxes!

Hot chocolate/pjs...they don't consider any of these much of a treat to be honest...and no, they're not spoiled at all!

alletik · 16/12/2017 11:25

We don't do the box, but my children (14 and 11) have always been given a Christmas Eve present containing a new set of PJs and an activity for the morning (to keep them entertained if they wake early) like a magazine, book to read, small toy etc. This year my DDs are getting pjs and the pointless book 3.

Why? Because that's what my parents did for me in the 70s. It's not a new thing...

Oh and yes, they wear the pjs all year round. This morning DD2 came downstairs wearing her Xmas PJs from last year - tatty teddy ones. This year they're getting unicorn and Harry Potter ones.

ScrabbleFiend · 16/12/2017 11:29

Lol at mental load. I have a cardboard covered in Christmas paper I reuse every year. The contents which I've picked up over the last couple of months whilst shopping are currently sitting in a bag, on the 23rd I'll tip them into the box and tie a bow round it after which I may need a lie down what with all the effort and everything.

Everyone would think I'd lost my mind if I insisted on showering and dressing before present opening!

MsHarry · 16/12/2017 20:10

I happen to think my DC looked beautiful opening their presents all bleary eyed in their fave old jimjams and dressing gowns, hair unbrushed, I took photos but never shared these personal gems for all and sundry to judge.

cutthegraa · 16/12/2017 20:12

Fuck no. Why do they need more shite when they get gifts on Christmas Day?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hermagsjesty · 16/12/2017 20:19

We do Christmas pyjamas and a Christmassy story book to read that night. We get the pyjamas on to watch The Snowman and then snuggle up and read the books. I love Christmas Eve!
