What are your kids getting, that they're not expecting?

So DD told me this morning she really wanted a fingerling for Christmas, I've explained that they are out of stock everywhere (true) but I preempted this month's ago when the unicorn fingerlings had just been released and bought one. She's going to freak out, I'm going to pop a note in saying he was the last one too Xmas Grin

What are you getting your kids that they are not expecting?

My kids have got a tablet each and a massive wooden train set. I told them that they're not allowed any more wooden trains, so they are going to be really surprised.

Juanbablo · 12/12/2017 17:15

Dd is getting a slime making kit. She's been lusting after slime ever since I banned it from the house after a particularly slimy and frustrating summer. So she won't expect it at all and will be thrilled.

NathalieM · 18/12/2017 16:15

I am getting my niece and nephew Pokemon base things, I am super unorganised this year, so I am running around like a headless chicken trying to find options! I am trying to steer away from buying them techy gadgets because they spend waaaay too much time on their tablets. My friend is pregnant with twins so, I am getting her some personalised baby gifts to help her when they arrive!

Arrowfanatic · 18/12/2017 18:31

They really want the Nintendo switch with Mario Odessy but told them it's too much money but we bought it.

Dd5 also desperately wanted a MLP castle which I got on a bargain yesterday.

KCWW · 18/12/2017 18:33

Dd is desperate to go skydiving so I've bought her a voucher for a wind tunnel experience. Safer. ;)

iklboo · 18/12/2017 18:35

Lego mindstorms. Got it when it was on offer at Argos plus we had vouchers to put towards it as well so it was much less than normal cost. DS(12) is going to flip.

GeekyWombat · 18/12/2017 18:48

@Cagliostro I got that deck builder last Christmas and playing it on Boxing Day with DH and a bottle of Baileys was one of the highlights of the festive season - DH was very smug indeed as it’s not licences for sale in the UK.

This year I have bought him the expansion (and another bottle of Baileys) as part of his gift :D

An hour ago my daughter told me she has secretly asked Santa for something else that I don't know about! She won't tell me what either! 😱

loveulotslikejellytots · 18/12/2017 20:36

Dd isn't quite 2 yet, but this will be her first Christmas where she will be properly involved. I just can't wait to see her face in general. Dh's birthday in July she helped him unwrap his presents. Every one she unwrapped, she would hold it up going "Oh look, oh look", she didn't have a clue what it was!

My in laws have got her a toy kitchen, I think she will probably spend all day making us imaginary drinks and meals Grin

We have got her small presents, some books, duggee pyjamas, some play doh tools, and some big blocks. But she's at such a lovely age that everything is exciting!

BlueNeighbourhood1 · 18/12/2017 21:20

What are these LOL Big Surprise things? I've seen people mention them but no idea what they are.

These surprises have melted me tonight :)

VerityRarity · 18/12/2017 21:21

DD is only 2 and speech delayed so not asked for anything but I know she'll love:

  • The Cat Digger my MILs bought her which is big enough for her favourite cuddly elephant to sit in
  • The Ninky Nonk my DM has got her
  • The minecraft chicken DH won at work (funny story behind it)

Actually I don't think there's anything I've bought her that can beat these 3 Sad

SpaghettiAlphabetti · 18/12/2017 21:35

Some of these are so lovely.

DD only asked for a tracing pad in her letter to Santa so nearly all her presents are surprises! Hoping she loves them.

DS (4) saw a small toy he loved in a shop at the weekend and I said no. DD (6) asked to double back and buy it for him for Christmas from her pocket money. Looking forward to him opening that.

Kikisxmas · 18/12/2017 21:43

@TheHeraldOfAndraste your post has actually made me well up, absolutely priceless.

AgathaRaisonDetra · 18/12/2017 21:56

A potato.

Nousernameforme · 18/12/2017 21:58

A walnut whip for the stocking dd doesn't think they make them anymore.

Fitzsimmons · 18/12/2017 21:59

Tickets to see Chris Hadfield the astronaut talk. DS is obsessed with space and loves his videos especially his David Bowie cover.

neversleepagain · 18/12/2017 22:13

Dd's are 5 and both recently learnt to ride without stabilizers. Their current bikes are tiny and way too small for them but they bomb around on them so happily even though their knees hit the handle bars and they're all hunched over. Not once have they complained or asked for a better bike.

I cannot wait to see their little faces when they see two new shiny bikes under the christmas tree next week!

LeMesmer · 18/12/2017 22:48

DS (12) is also getting Lego Mindstorms, bought in August when it was on offer on Amazon. He has given up asking for it as I always said it was too expensive. He has no clue and will also flip Grin. He is also getting a remote controlled car he was desperate for, but knew he wouldn't get because I don't like remote controlled thing (not true, I just don't like them being raced around the house, this one he can take to the beach).

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 18/12/2017 22:49

This thread is lovely and making me all warm and fuzzy Xmas Smile

DS (17) is getting a new laptop. He's desperate for one since his old one broke but hasn't even asked as he knows it's too expensive. I can't wait to see his face.

DD (22) is getting a Mulberry scarf. She does exciting squealing better than most 5 year olds and I know she's going to be thrilled to bits!

ItsBeginingToLookAlotLikeChris · 18/12/2017 23:38

Fairy I got matilda tickets too, been a trying to go for two years.
Wish we had Hamilton tickets though.
Some amazing treats on here, Disney and Disney Paris! So exciting. We have not been given any clear direction this year so itsu all going to be surprise

user1469751309 · 18/12/2017 23:49

I bought my DD age 4 a mini teddy wheelchair from the bear factory. I'm in a wheelchair and am forever telling her not to play with mine as its not a toy ect and when she does she leaves it in the hall whilst I'm stranded on the sofa so she will love having her own teddy one can't wait to see her little face when she sees it. Probably seems really daft to everyone else but will mean a lot to her.

speakout · 19/12/2017 06:36

Drone cameras.

Rainatnight · 19/12/2017 06:48

These are so lovely! Well done, lovely mums.

Spaghetti, your daughter sounds terrific.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 19/12/2017 06:51

DS17 is getting an iPad. He hasn't asked for anything other than for his dad to beat cancer, and said he has everything material he could possibly want. We have had a crap year and he has been a star, so we wanted to treat him to something he will love but wouldn't ask for.

tootsieglitterballs · 19/12/2017 07:40

DS1 is getting a balance bike - he’s about to turn 3, and hasn’t made any noises about wanting one, but we figured it’s the next natural thing for him.

Walked past a bike shop yesterday and he got so excited looking in the window, he will be over the moon on Christmas Day!
