Hand cream suggestion for MIL

Shufflebumnessie · 07/12/2017 21:36

My lovely (yes, really) MIL has requested hand cream for Christmas. The only specification is 'nothing extravagant', however I don't really want to wrap up a a bottle of Vaseline Intensive! She is a keen gardener if that helps.

I'm thinking of a budget of about £10 - 12 (it's not her main present), and ideally I like to be able to buy it on the high street rather than having to order online.

I saw a Burt's Bees hand cream today - any good?

Kiehls smaller tubes are about that price. Ultimate Strength Hand Salve is really excellent but quite medicinal smelling.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies. I'm heading into town tomorrow so I'll have a look / sniff at the suggestions on the list.

Skin Food (about £9/10) is amazing and smells great.

Clarins is lovely and smells 'clean'. L'Occitane Shea hand cream is great too

buckeejit · 07/12/2017 22:04

Neals yard smells v nice. I'm not dying about the l'occitane ones but like the Verveine smell a lot

Can’t believe how many people like hemp. I’m sure the texture is good but I stuck some on from a tester once and nearly threw up on the train on the way home. It’s like gross dirt. Not the nice garden type of dirt but a horrible icky gagging dirt. So horrible.

Nononononono33 · 07/12/2017 22:16

L’Occitane do lovely hand creams in a gift set of three. Would recommend.

CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest · 07/12/2017 22:17

L'occitane shea butter is the only one I use. I'm allergic to a lot of others but the shea one is amazing and you can choose scented or just shea ones. Lovely texture and is amazing for your hands - I always ask for some for Christmas as it's so good!

L'Occitane or Crabtree & Evelyn Gardeners Hand Therapy.

SomewhereOver · 08/12/2017 11:24

Definitely l'Occitane. They last ages, smell gorgeous and make your hands so soft!

Boots - Laura Ashley Rotal Bloom trio in a box set £8.75 from Laura Ashley.

Cath Kitson also have a boxed trio Patchouli Mint flavour £6.00

Hope this helps

Another vote for Crabtree and Evelyn - the pumps are about £20 so over budget but look nice. The pomegranate one is my favourite.

Weleda skin food is amazing.

Hemp is awful, the smell makes me gag.

Apileofballyhoo · 08/12/2017 18:55

I've tried many of those listed over the years and still think the Kiehl's is best.

dirtyprettything · 08/12/2017 19:40

Cowshed! Smells divine

I love hand cream, I have asked for l'occitane the past 3 Christmas's and am still waiting for my family to take the unsubtle hint

I fancied the body shop hemp but hate the smell of it
DH bought me clarin's last year (I use clarin's face cream so he thought I'd prefer it to the one I asked for 🤔). It's quite strong smelling but ok.
I like Norwegian for fishermen from boots on a budget

TheNoseyProject · 08/12/2017 22:01

I really like ‘hand food’ from that pink 50s packaging brand boots stocks. A runner up would be looccitane rose and Shea. I find the body shop ones distinctly so-so abc the hemp one greasy. I have dry hands with poor circulation so need ones that run in easily.

TheNoseyProject · 08/12/2017 22:04

Soap and glory hand food.

I love berts bees but not the hand cream partially because it comes in pots or tins which don’t go well with slippery creamy hands and the texture isn’t great.

AdamBarlowsQuiff · 09/12/2017 00:08

There is a hand scrub from no 7 which is really good. It makes your hands so soft. I've gifted it to MIL and a great grandma to a good reception.
