Perfect Xmas Stocking - what's in it?

DS is four and suddenly Christmas crazy. Stockings run in DH's family but not mine. I've decided I want to do one for them both.

What should I put in them?

Are you planning stockings before breakfast or are they to keep him occupied and let you have some lie-in time ?

We used to put DD & DS in the same room on Christmas Eve when they were little , so they woke up together . They woke at 5am and tried to be soo quiet as they unwrapped and chatted.

I used to wrap stocking gifts for extra impact (and time Xmas Grin )

Are there any sweets or treats he doesn't usually have? Maybe a small packet of ones he likes.

A book (colouring book and pencils)
Fruit (satsuma or apple)

Those little Matchbox cars

Lots of toys are 3+ so more choice, my DS liked those fuzzy snakes on a clear string toys.

Stickers

(I don't do stockings for adults though )

For DH so far I have a couple of miniature whiskeys, a pocket screwdriver, an air freshener for his van, pack of mints, and VIPoo as a (serious) joke gift.
For 5 yo DS so far I have chocolate coins, pot of slime, imaginext blind bags, spy pen & spy glasses, magnifying glass and a kinder egg santa.
I love stockings, they’re one of my favourite parts of Christmas. The kids come in to us with them and we all sit on the bed to open them together.

Mine get bubble bath, sweets, matchmakers, I have done "pud in a cup" sachets (so they can have cake for breakfast), socks, Pringles,

My four year old DS has a little lego kit, a yo yo, stationary, chocolate coins and santa, bubble bath, expanding flanel, a mini dinosaur egg thing you 'excavate' Dino bones from (Poundland !) , a DVD

My four (nearly five year old) has a small Lego set, a small set of story cubes, a joke book, dinosaur top trumps, dissolvable Dino egg, dinosaur bath fizzer, small Schleich Dino, chocolate coins, lolly (usually banned), head torch.

Last year, his stocking included a projector torch, magnifying glass, giant magnet, alphabet cards, bird whistle....
