Stocking gifts, not expensive, older children

CustardDoughnutsRule · 26/11/2017 20:02

DD is Y6, just turned 11, and DS Y4, just turned 9. What are your children around this age getting in their stockings?

Our added complications: DD is not very into bath stuff - she doesn't really see the point. DS is possibly autistic, bright but not really into many "things".

I'm thinking of keeping it simple this year with a new water bottle each in their favourite colours (marshmallows inside?), and chocolate. Really stumped on other bits and pieces. They don't need pants/socks/flannels and they are growing out of party bag type toys. I'd love to hear any other ideas.

Stationery. I always put in pens/pencils/rubbers.

Bath bomb. Even my soap dodger dd2 loves a bath bomb.

Toomanycats99 · 26/11/2017 20:04

My 10yo dd loves notebooks if tags any use - and they are useful. Those little fluffy ball key rings.

theredjellybean · 26/11/2017 20:04

Stationary type stuff?

ineedamoreadultieradult · 26/11/2017 20:07

My two are 10 and 7 so similar ages in their stockings they are getting:
Coloured pencils
Top trumps
Chocolate
Popping Candy
Bake your own cookie/cupcake kits
Those straws you drink milk through and it flavours the milk chocolate/strawberry etc
Microwave Popcorn
Crystal growing kit
In ear headphones
Slime

We put popping candy, a candy cane, chocolate coins and a chocolate Christmas lolly, a book, arts and craft activity, a satsuma, maybe a new fleece blanket and something for their rooms. My kids have little sacks instead of stockings though

Mine are younger but my main thing is using smaller 'stockings' so at most my ankle socks. We always have a tangerine, apple, and chocolate Santa (same as I had growing up) and then a few bits like lip balm, tooth brush, stationary etc.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 27/11/2017 03:12

Oh yes I forgot a smellies set. It used to be character bubble bath/soap, these days it's lynx Grin

reluctantbrit · 27/11/2017 06:27

DD doesn't get specific stocking gifts, I just put in whatever small gifts she normally gets. The stocking is in the living room, so no need to use it to keep her playing quietly.

This year she will get
Pens
A T-Shirt
Audio book
Kindle voucher
Make up brushes

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 27/11/2017 06:54

Pocket torch for reading under the covers after lights out.

simpson · 27/11/2017 08:21

Moon ball
Torch
Highlighter pens
MP3 player
Virtual reality head set

CheesyFootballs · 27/11/2017 10:36

Similar age DCs, including one who is autistic and pretty much only into gaming Grin.

Both got:
sweets
a calendar
a novelty soft toy (DD has an obsession with pug dogs, so she's got a pug; DS has got a pokemon plush).
a mug with hot chocolate & marshmallows
mini hot water bottle

DD has also got:
New headphones
Christmas pudding bath bomb (she isnt into beauty type things, but does like a novelty bath bomb Grin)
scented pens
a small jigsaw

DS has got:
a spare portable charger for his phone
a joke book
touchscreen gloves

So far, anyway....

carrie74 · 27/11/2017 14:57

My kids' stockings must be much smaller than all of yours' [lol].

DD (12) is getting a tangle teaser, lip balm, and some new felt tip pens (maybe a bit of chocolate, and definitely a satsuma Grin).

DD (10) is getting a couple of Lego mini figures, some Pokemon cards and a travel game.

WellTidy · 27/11/2017 15:19

I have a 9 year old boy. He isn't into things that lots of 9 year old boys on MN seem to like such as electronics, drones and the like. In his stocking, he has:

Bath bombs
Chocolate
A spot the difference card game in a tin
Pencils
Coloured pens
Eraser with his initial
Zipper tag with his initial (light up) - it is to go on his school bag
Match Attack cards in a tin
National Geographic magazine
David Walliams new book
Small Lego packs - Lego Creator and some Lego City
Soft toy
Set of Usborne 'learn how to draw dinosaurs, animals and something else' books (I got these in a box for £6 from WHSmith)
CD

There are other things too but I have already wrapped them and I can't remember!!

NotMeNoNo · 27/11/2017 15:23

Each a good magazine, rolled up. Novelty socks. Variety of sweets. Keyring. Fidget toy. Pens or pencils. Little book of jokes or puzzles.
