Carol of the Bells

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/11/2017 14:10

My favourite classical carol is In Dulci Jubilo.

For congregational carols, I think it is either In the Bleak Midwinter, or Oh Come AllYe Faithful, and pop Christmas music, it’s a toss up between Fairytale of New York and Merry Christmas Everybody.

Actually, I love all the Christmas music.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/11/2017 14:12

@IceMagic - I’m in a small choir, and we are singing Carol of the Bells this year, at my request - and I forgot to put it on my list just now. Blush

ButtfaceMiscreant · 25/11/2017 14:14

Hark the Herald Angels Sing, complete with descant on the final verse. But really, I love all the traditional carols with their descants

Tiredemma · 25/11/2017 14:16

googling all of these (and crying....) first christmas without my mum so woke up today feeling very festive but extremely emotional.

I like O Little Town of Bethlehem

IceMagic · 25/11/2017 14:29

SDTG. It's so lovely. It's in the waitrose ad this year and i think my daughter and others in the school orchestra are performing it at the school concert this year. There's a lovely version of it performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on youtube. Makes you feel happy when you watch it

Flowers Tired.

I'm not at all religious but I like anything sung by Mahalia Jackson, especially O Holy Night. Her voice was incredible. I do like to sing a verse or two of In The Bleak Midwinter.

CaeciliusIstInAtrium · 25/11/2017 15:11

Carol of the Bells, particularly the Libera version:

Also, O Holy Night

English the calypso carol, Welsh Tua bethlem dre

Tiredemma · 25/11/2017 18:49

love all these!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 25/11/2017 19:05

All of them, as long as they aren't being slaughtered by Katherine Jenkins or, worse, Michael Buble.

I'm very partial to the Il Divo version of O Holy Night, (and also their version of When A Child is Born is phenomenal)

For carols I just love O Little Town of Bethlehem, Once in Royal David's City and all the big drumrolly ones.

Flowers TiredEmma.

Cagliostro · 25/11/2017 19:10

I'm getting chills just reading this thread!

My favourite is o come o come Emmanuel

TiredEmma I'm so sorry Thanks I hope it helps to listen to some carols and have a good cry xx

CaeciliusIstInAtrium · 25/11/2017 21:12

Ooooh, yes, OnCome, O Come Emmanuel - this version is glorious:

MadreDeDios · 25/11/2017 21:22

Little drummer boy is my favourite

jauchzet frohlocket for Christmas morning

BabyDreams2018 · 25/11/2017 21:23

Silent night (needs to be sang well!)

TheLuminaries · 25/11/2017 21:24

It came upon a midnight clear. I just really like it, I think it is the final bit about peace over all the earth and the whole world giving back the song. I'm not religious, but it is a lovely image.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 25/11/2017 21:26

The last verse is beautiful, yes.

I love all the traditional ones, specially Away In A Manger, Silent Night, Once In Royal Davids' City. I also Like Mike Oldfield's Dulci Jubilo.
