Board game for teenage son...inspiration needed!

Kids have got sacks this year and due to younger ones Santa will be filling them. I’ve got some great little bits to put in my 14 year old ds sack, but I’ve got a board game each for the 3 younger ones and want a teenage one for him.
He spends most of his time either playing football on fifa or playing proper football....I want to get him something that’s going to encourage him to spend a bit of time with the rest of us because we all quite like him Smile
Any suggestions?

Carcassonne is a great family game. Younger children can join in too.

WidowWadman · 23/11/2017 07:17

Dominion! It's awesome, many extensions if he gets hooked and tons of variation in game play. Carcassonne is not bad, but Dominion beats it by miles

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 23/11/2017 08:11

Ticket to ride Europe is a great game

DressedCrab · 23/11/2017 08:26

Any of the Ticket to Ride variations.

SoupDragon · 23/11/2017 08:27

I gave DS2 Exploding Kittens last year (he was 15). Not the "not suitable for work” version, the family version.

Crumbs1 · 23/11/2017 08:28

Risk? My sons used to play for days at a time.

MsMartini · 23/11/2017 08:30

Settlers of Catan? Quicker to play than some (often under an hour), and my ds played throughout his teens (with us).

Chickenricesoup · 23/11/2017 22:39

Risk - love playing it with our teenage boys of similar ages. Alternatively, one of ours was thrilled to receive a present of a wooden box with inlay decoration containing twin pack of cards. A bit like this thumbs.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/m6DydZKw1aeqKLJol6G4DVQ.jpg

Another vote for Dominion here, other suggestions would be Sheriff of Nottingham, Jamaica or Clank.

Machi Koro with the Harbor expansion is great fun, as is Ticket to Ride Europe.
These are DS12’s favourites.

He will receive Dominion this Christmas.

Debby08 · 24/11/2017 10:32

I'd say Dominion is a good choice when you talk about board games. It's nothing like other board games and got lots of variations kids will enjoy.

VileyRose · 24/11/2017 11:17

Catan

BelligerentGardenPixies · 24/11/2017 17:29

Coup is great.

I'm getting Bears v's Babies for my thirteen year old this years.

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 24/11/2017 20:00

Ds likes King of Tokyo

ojell · 24/11/2017 20:07

Any of the above, maybe also look at Seven Wonders, Pandemic, Istanbul or Splendor. I know lots of 13yos who love for Munchkin, though it’s not my bag.

myrtleWilson · 24/11/2017 20:09

Dominion, Seven Wonders (although I think that had limited lifespan - but the leaders expansion kit adds another dimension) Pandemic, Condottiere, Love Letters -all hits in our house

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 24/11/2017 20:11

Another vote for Exploding Kittens

JeremyCorbynsBeard · 24/11/2017 21:10

Don't know what it's like, but there's a board game of and Escape Room game (like an online one). Looks good and the sort of thing a teenage boy would like.

Helpotron3000 · 24/11/2017 23:09

I spent hours playing Balderdash as a teenager, if you want something that's going to come out a little cheaper/is older

traviata · 24/11/2017 23:15

we hated Seven Wonders, found it v dull.

Mysterium, Cluedo, Balderdash, Articulate, Carcassonne all popular here.

traviata · 24/11/2017 23:16

DC also love the Game of Things and Perudo

NachoAddict · 24/11/2017 23:16

I have bought split second for ds and am consodering 5 seconds but think they might be a bit similar so going to Google some of these.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 24/11/2017 23:26

Exploding Kittens! We love it, older visiting kids love it and actually it's ok for younger kids too after a few hands playing as a team to get the rules. Don't get the NSFW version though!

TrouserTrouble · 24/11/2017 23:34

Coup, Pandemic, Machi Koro, Maskarade, Forbidden Island, Love Letters, or Celestia?

TheKnackeredChef · 25/11/2017 06:35

Bang! the dice game is brill. My teenage DTs love it. You get to be outlaws /sheriffs and shoot each other. It's terrific fun.
