Best wrapped chocolates like type Quality Street?

I tend to make up our advent calendars with mixed wrapped chocolates, and was wondering which ones people recommend this year? I resent paying a premium price for QS or Roses, and recall having Aldi and Sainsbury's own brand in previous years. Can't find either in the shops - am I looking too early? Any suggestions gratefully received. I saw 500g bags of individually wrapped Guylian (?) Chocs for £5 yesterday in Wilkos, in case that helps anyone, but they only have 4 or 5 flavours and one is coffee which makes them less suitable for us. Yes I know other selections may also have that but it is usually less than 20%. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Lidl had Quality Street tubs for £3.99 this morning. They also had packs of 10 own brand chocolate Christmas lollies for 99p, but didn’t spot any big tubs of own brand wrapped chocolates. They also had lots of wrapped just chocolate, but can’t remember the prices.

Hope you find something suitable x

I got the M&s version of quality street last year and they were lovely...far , far nicer than Roses or QS

PodgeBod · 16/11/2017 15:37

I like the Thornton’s moments, they come in a pouch instead of a tub but are the same sort of small wrapped chocolates as QS.

GlowWine · 16/11/2017 16:24

Great thanks forgot about M&S. And I think I got the Thorntons as a present last year and they were quite nice too. Pouch is fine. I just want this ticked off my shopping list now Xmas Smile

I’ve seen the Sainsbury’s ones in store they’re my favourite. Much nicer than quality street etc

Jaffalong · 16/11/2017 18:51

Yes to Sainsbury's tub of chocolates, much nicer than greasy Cadbury's.

girlywhirly · 16/11/2017 22:16

I second the M&S ones, we have them every Christmas now they are far superior to QS.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/11/2017 22:39

Lindor Balls would be my choice :)

Shadow666 · 16/11/2017 22:49

Does anyone know the name of the M&S ones? I’d like to order some online.

FoxInABox · 16/11/2017 22:54

Tesco have quality street for £1.50 at the moment. Love the idea of doing your own, I’m planning to next year as I’ve already bought this years.

Alittlepotofrosie · 17/11/2017 07:18

Morrisons and sainsburys ones are nice.

fraggle84 · 17/11/2017 07:52

Aldi’s version of the lindor balls 😋

Malaco · 17/11/2017 08:37

I'd be interested to know which ones the Marks ones are too

girlywhirly · 17/11/2017 09:49

I think the M&S ones are called The Big Selection and they are in a box.

321zerobaby · 17/11/2017 09:51

Does anyone know which of these don't contain palm oil?

Malaco · 17/11/2017 09:54

Thanks girly

girlywhirly · 17/11/2017 12:26

I think that the M&S chocolate tastes much nicer than whatever is used in QS, but I don’t know about it’s palm oil quantities. I assume less because the taste is so different. There are some ethically sourced palm oils around.

GlowWine · 17/11/2017 13:32

Great thanks for all the suggestions, I suppose I need to look a bit harder for the Sainsbury's ones. I might get a chance to look around M&S later today and will report back. I can also second the recommendation for Aldi Lindor type truffles, those have already been bought...

The Sainsbury's tub also has palm oil as an ingredient. It's £4 for the tub.

GlowWine · 17/11/2017 16:22

Hmm, I am still failing to find any. The M&S food hall I tried on the way home had loads of chocolates, but not the right type. No, I don't want 'Italian inspired' or 'Christmas dessert', I just want good old chocs and toffees and permutations thereof. I think I'll be buying some eclairs and fudge separately at this rate. And the Aldi Swiss truffles do not contain palm oil, I just checked the ones in the cupboard.

Morrisons do 1kg tub for £4 - got some for trick or treaters on Halloween but enjoyed eating the leftovers! They have had them piled high for weeks now.

GlowWine · 17/11/2017 16:35

Sadly there's no Morrisons near me Xmas Sad

Sainsburys do a very reasonable bag of mixed chocolates/toffees in their basics range. I buy them for party bags or trick and treating as you get a lot for a good price, but actually they don't taste bad at all. I might actually get some to put in bowls for Christmas parties this year as well. In our Sainsburys they're on the bottom shelf with all the other chocolates - no fancy wrapping or box!
