How much do you spend on each person/child per Christmas?

How much is too much?

I tend to spend 100 on dh and same on my parents

Dcs - about 120 each I suppose (but I buy something each month from June so it isn't noticeable)

I spend £50 to £70 per child. They are 5 and 2 and get gifts from other relatives.
We have to buy for a bunch of people (reciprocating gifts for DC) and spend £10 to £20 each.

I think it's too much if it becomes overwelming for the child. You know your kid-you can best judge what would do that to them.

I think I went overboard the first few years as I wasn't expecting the generosity of DH'S family and bought as if I was the only one buying.

Mine are 12 and 17, it varies and is normally around 400 each, sometimes more, sometimes less. I always buy what they need, what would be useful, and then a few things they want. Neither are massively into gadgets, but last year my then 11yr old Ds opened a ps4 as his big present and promptly burst into tears because I new he wanted one, but he hadn't asked because he thought it was to expensive. Worth the money just to see the reaction!

2 dc teenagers £120 each.

I do around £100 for each of my dc.although normally a little less for dd as she’s not really into much and prefers playing with her big brothers toys.
I do £20 each for my nieces.normallyput £20 in Xmas cards for the adults.

I'm feeling totally overwhelmed with it. I'm a single parent, dad isn't involved at all. I keep over compensating and spending too much. I just don't know when to stop and it causes me terrible anxiety.
I feel myself picking stuff up because it's on sale even though he doesn't need it. It's constant!!

Our kids don't get anything other than at Christmas and birthdays.

Probably up to £100 per child (5 and 2 so no tech, brands yet!). It feels like less but probably with stocking bits it adds up.
Around £10 for other people - mainly immediate family and a few friends children.

Around £200 each and around the same for dh and my mum. My sister around £100 and my nephews about £50.

I've always worked on the principle of £100 each per child for a big gift and then stocking fillers on top. But we don't tend to buy things like bikes or new scooters for anything other than xmas or birthdays so recently it's been a bit more than that. Dreading this xmas as eldest needs new ice hockey goalie pads and he's just moved into adult sizing - they start at around £300 🙈😱😩

DDs are 12&10. I spend £200 each on bits and £100-300 each on their mail present depending on what it is. Some years more expensive than others. It may sound a lot but a single footy top for DD cost £60!

for Ds, whatever it costs to get himw hat he wants. HE ask, literally, for nothing all year apart from birthday and christmas so i don't mind spending on him at those times. He's conscious of not asking for too much but i make the end decision on what i spend and i am happy that i give him what he wants.

For Dp it massively vary depending on what sort of things he is wanting but i suppose anything from £200 upwards although he NEVER expects me to spend a lot on him but i like to spoil him, he works hard both at work and taking care of me so feel he deserves to be treated

Everyone else there's no exact set budget, i ask for ideas and then buy something from those lists. some years its more expensive, other years cheaper but i always get something they are happy with

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer about to spend on gifts. i wouldnt get into debt to give gifts, id definitely downsize if i needed to so i suppose you spend what you can afford and concentrate on giving with love

Mumma it depends how old your dc's are but really I don't think it's about how much, it depends what they have asked for, is there one thing they would really like? You don't have to go over the top, you don't need to compete with what others spend. Don't buy things just because they are on offer. Write a list and stick to it or things get out of hand (talking from expereance), just buy things you know will get played with, things they really want. I stay of the bargain threads to stop me buying things that are not on my list.

I spend a different amount each year as it depends what they want, my dd's are almost 12 and 14, this year I have probably spent around £250 each but they only have around 5-6 gifts, main present costing £130, some clothes and a few other bits they want/need.

I spend £30 on my mum and the same on my dad.

All other children in the family I spend around £10 each

I don't buy for any other adults other than my best friend (around £15).

I try and budget for £1000 to cover everything including food.

We don't have any set amount. On the first couple of Christmases they either got nothing or clothes which they needed anyway.

Last year we put Minecraft on our family iPad for our son. It cost £7 and he still says it is the best present ever.

We spend very little on Christmas gifts but buy stuff when they need it.

Ds (7) and Ds (5) £330 each (dearest item they have asked for is a nerf gun at £25. But we have got them a new 2ds xl each as a suprise.
Dh - £150-£200 but its all stuff he actually needs. Plus tickets to event hes going so
My parents £60ish each (they spoil us)
In laws - £40-£45 each
Niece - £30
Sil - £10
Grandparents etc £5

Nothing is "too much" as long as you get them things they will like and use/play with. Lots of presents don't make children spoiled. But don't just buy junk because it's on sale. I wrap things like new underwear and pyjamas and my children love it.

I probably spend £250- £500 per child depending on age and what they ask for but i know people who spend less and more and it's just what suits their family ( in our family parents don't buy xmas presents-they're all from santa!)

We spend about £200 each on the DC, £15 each on nieces, nephews and goddaughters, £20-£30 on my DB and SIL (no kids yet) and about £20 on PIL.

Normally about £80-£100 for dd but it has been more for special items e.g. one year she wanted an adult-size violin after years of loaning one from the teacher. That was £250.

She's 16 now and it's getting harder because things she wants are more expensive.

I am a single parent but have a good relationship with her dad so I can suggest ideas to him if I can't get her everything she wants.

I have made the mistake of getting into financial difficulties by overspending at Christmas and I won't do it any more. I'd rather spend my money on holidays in the summer!

I probably spend around £3-400 extra in December on all presents, food and night out but it's not easy and I've cut out presents with all my friends and most adult family members now.

Dd does very well from extended family and grandparents so she's never felt deprived. Last year she got enough Christmas and birthday money and vouchers to buy a laptop!

Lots of amazing replies thank you ladies. I'm feeling so much better seeing what everyone else is spending. Little ones dad isn't involved so don't expect him to even put a penny in his pocket this year... he couldn't even send a text on his first birthday!! I think ill stop with what ive got now and just get the little finishing touches like pjs etc. Hopefully spend no mode than £50 finishing up. X

About £100-150 on DD who is 5 and then £30-40 each on everyone else but I only buy for close family so 21yo DS, my parents, my brother, sister in law and 11 yo nephew so total spend on gifts about £400

I’ve fallen into the trap of buying far too much before mummabear16 and i only realised when I started wrapping that there was a ridiculous amount. I kept a few back in the cupboard to give later as rewards for good behaviour or for birthday presents for parties we were invited to rather than overwhelm them.

£250ish per child but this can go up or down depending on what we find. They don't get much from other people and don't have pocket money through the year

About £50-£100 max per child. They don’t really need huge mounds of presents. We’re treating them to things like a trip to the Panto and Ice Skating etc as well. But honestly the best things about Christmas really are all the free things - carol sercices, Christmas light displays, baking, Christmas stories and movies. fine to buy lots of presents if you wish, but you are missing out if you make that the focus of Christmas.

Kids around £100 for main present and £100 on stockings

Other close family we spend
Around £30 each

Then not so close people just token gifts of £5-10

Budget is 150 per child, 30 per adult and 60 for h. So far I'm under.

We spend more on food and a holiday cottage tbh
