Does anyone know a major retailer who sells these?! Many years ago my local Waitrose sold them in big bags.

They’re so delicious and Christmas-y and I can’t find them anywhere!!!

(I’m in the South East if that helps)

CrochetBelle · 11/11/2017 18:28

DelphiniumBlue · 11/11/2017 18:29

Aldi had them last year.

TheVanguardSix · 11/11/2017 18:31

Ocado/Waitrose

eyebrowsonfleek · 11/11/2017 18:35

Aldi and Morrisons

millsbynight · 11/11/2017 18:47

Thanks!

I’ve been looking in Sainsbury’s and Waitrose as they’re the only two big supermarkets near me and they don’t have them and they didn’t have them last year either but there’s also a Lidl a short drive away so I’ll try them tomorrow!!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 11/11/2017 19:21

We had some from Lidl the other day and they were lovely.

millsbynight · 11/11/2017 19:26

@mintich Pfeffernusse

Mmmmm yum. Reminds me of my childhood winters sometimes spent in Germany and Switzerland.

mintich · 11/11/2017 19:30

Oh yum! I need to try them

SvartePetter · 11/11/2017 19:35

Hema. Think you can order from them online as well

PurplePillowCase · 11/11/2017 19:35

the german deli (borough market)
haven't seen them in lidl this year (and also no doministeine)

Cagliostro · 11/11/2017 20:20

Oh my gosh. I had no idea these were a thing. There's a character in one of my favourite tv shows with that name and I thought it was made up!

😳

Now I need to try some!

TefalTester123 · 11/11/2017 20:25

I made them last year from a recipe on Allrecipes. It made loads and they were very delicious and kept well. Think I froze some they were so delicious.

Ingredients
1/2 cup molasses (170g black syrup)
1/4 cup honey (85g)
1/4 cup shortening (can sub butter)
1/4 cup margarine. Totals 1/2 cup, 113g fat.
2 eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cardamom
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground ginger
2 teaspoons anise extract
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
icing sugar for dusting

Method

Stir together the molasses, honey, shortening, and margarine in a saucepan over medium heat; cook and stir until creamy. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature. Stir in the eggs.

Combine the flour, white sugar, brown sugar, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, anise, cinnamon, baking soda, pepper, and salt in a large bowl. Add the molasses mixture and stir until thoroughly combines. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Roll the dough into acorn-sized balls. Arrange on baking sheets, spacing at least 1 inch apart.

Bake in preheated oven 10 to 15 minutes. Move to a rack to cool. Dust cooled cookies with icing sugar.

Makes well over 100 at 11-12g each, probably more like 120.

Hema, online definitely.

IndieRar · 11/11/2017 22:02

I bloody love pfeffernusse!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 12/11/2017 07:24

Love Hema’s packaging. Is their chocolate nice or does it taste cheap and nasty?

FizzyWaterAndElderflower · 12/11/2017 07:36

I've made them a couple of years running using an amalgam of recipes found online - and about triple the spices the recipes recommend (one thing I've discovered, once you've ground cardamom in a grinder, you'll never be free of it!).

I had to hide a box so that I could still have some after Christmas, everyone nommed them down.

Vintage1980 · 12/11/2017 08:16

I make pfeppernusse most years at Christmas using this recipe

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2009/dec/12/edible-christmas-gifts-recipes-whittingstall

They are wonderful and the icing is really easy. They keep beautifully.

Isadora2007 · 12/11/2017 08:28

Aldi definitely has them. Haven’t noticed them in Lidl.

toffeepumpkins · 12/11/2017 08:39

Waitrose has them.

millsbynight · 12/11/2017 08:40

Me too @IndieRar In Coop supermarkets in Switzerland they sell them in giant bags... I could happily sit through half a bag a day Blush

Thanks so much for the recipes too! I’ll have a go at baking them. DH has never tried them so not sure whether I want his first to come from my rubbish baking or shop-bought.

Hoping Lidl has them today. I don’t know of any Aldi supermarkets near me :(

My nearest Waitrose doesn’t have them 😭😭 They sold them probably 4 years ago but nothing on the shelves since. I checked again this year and nothing.
