Brandy in Christmas cake

Hello,

I'm going to attempt to make my first Christmas cake.

Does it matter the quality of brandy I put in it? We don't drink Brandy so I don't want to spend loads on a bottle but will cheap bottle make a difference to the flavour

Thank you

Not really. I tend to go with supermarket's own, although not the scary-cheap stuff on the bottom shelf that comes in 1.5l bottles.

That said, a client gave me a bottle of very expensive armagnac once. I didn't like the taste of it, so I used it in the Christmas cake later that year. It was very good, although not so good that I would have spent £70 of my own money on it. So a nicer one will be a bit nicer, but it's certainly not going to be spoiled by using the better-value stuff, if that makes sense.

I love Christmas cake, I do. Cake

Blended whiskey works well, you can omit the alcohol completely if you like. Ale is nice in the cake too, added half a bottle of Newcastle Brown one year, used the other half in the Christmas pudding!
Good luck with the baking.
