Do your kids still belive in Santa?

hey, my husband is saying we should not keep lying to our kids about Santa? I ordered this on the internet and he went mad:

at what age do you think you should tell your kids about Santa?

My ds is 7 and totally believes and is very excited about Christmas.

My dd is 10 and although she says she believes I suspect that she doesn't but is afraid she won't get presents if she doesn't.

I think I knew for sure he wasn't real at about 8 or 9 but I still went along with it for quite a long time!

We just used NORAD. None of this newfangled spenny stuff. Plus who wants to actually SEE a random man in a red suit creeping round their home? Mine would likely have been freaked out.

so no, dc don't believe.

we tell them though that it is a game to pretend and not to spoil it for other children.
but generally, when dc are around 7yo they question things around them, become aware about thd fact that there is a grotto in every shopping area and how does santa manage that etc...

Dd 10 confessed she doesn't but agree to keep it up for ds 8+ds 3. And for me!!

Ds questioned from age 6 and we told him the truth at age 8. Don't know about dd as she never gave much away

My children were 7 or 8 when they worked it out and I did confirm the truth when they asked. My grandson started doubting at 7 and knew the truth by 8. Lots of the children in his year at school stopped believing then too.

DS12 knew by the time he was 10 but questioned it before then... DD10 is questioning this a lot, I think she knows but is waiting for me to admit it. I tell her the same thing I told DS, we can all believe in whatever we choose in this life so believe in whatever makes you happy - I tell them both I still believe in Santa and it's the truth... "he" brings so much magic to this time of year how can "he" not be real? :)

My 6yo still believes. My friend found out at 15yo and was devastated!

I think there comes a point where you have to support them in figuring out the mystery, otherwise you run the risk of them being the laughing stock of the classroom.

DS knew last year aged 8.

I have twins. My DS questioned it at 8 citing why are his presents from Santa wrapped in the same paper that I bought in Ikea. If only he paid that much attention in other areas, last year age 9 he didn't believe. His twin my DD did believe last year age 9 and was concerned for her brother I heard her saying 'but can you really take the chance he is not real, because I am not sharing' This year she doesn't believe.

Ds3 is 11.5 and still believes in both Santa and the tooth fairy. I can't remember what age ds1 and ds2 were but were definitely quite old. I think this will be his last year of believing. If he hasn't worked it out by himself I will give him some hints before he starts secondary school in August.

Mine believe at 5 and 7.

Dd1 school friends have said he's not real and I've said he is.

In worried they may pick on her or call her names.

I told her the tooth fairy wasn't real and she was horrified so I've managed to persuade her I was joking 😬

I'd i did tell her I know she would tell dd2 that he isn't real.

I don't remember being told. I'm quite worried now. Maybe this will be the last year they believe 😢😢

Ours haven’t ever thought he was real and know it’s a story. We have said that other people do believe though as their parents tell them so they are not to talk about it much. That seems to have worked. We also tie in the idea that people believe different things and it’s inportant to respect that and it’s ojay for people to think differently from them.

I hate hate hate the idea of those bloody santa-cams that spy on kids to report back to santa. And in fact hate any of the Santa being used as a blackmail tool in the run up to xmas... so very against the Christmas spirit surely.

DS is nearly 11. We had a chat the other day and after big hints from me he said he knew it was just me. He'd known for a couple of years he claims. I think it was more like a couple of minutes
DD was also 11. I love the magic but think they need to know when starting high school.

Yes and she's 25

DD is 8, almost 9 and still firmly believes. She was asking me the other day to remind Santa that she'd prefer if her Elf on the Shelf just stays downstairs, she doesn't like it when he goes upstairs. Very innocent and excited about Christmas.

my 10 year old knows, but hasn't said anything, she seems happy to go along for one more year, when she was younger 5,6.7 and she asked me about if its real i was able to be vague and bat it off. She has not said " I dont believe" the smirk on her face when i said she needed to ask FC for something told me all though

If she asks me now I will tell her.

I'm gutted, non of mine do now after the teens spoiled it for the 9yr old.

Dd - Mam Santa's not real you just buy everything, wrap it up and put it behind the fridge.

Me - No I don't, don't be silly

Dd - Yes you do, DSis told me so I had a look and it's all there.

Me - Well I've got to take it to the santa drop off point and he brings it back if your good.

Shes not buying it.

Dd was standing next to woman in a shop, woman said to herself "these would be good for stockings" looked at dd and said "ooops". Dd has only just told me this said story! She was most indignant at the woman's stupidity! Worse dd then came home and googled to double check! Dd was 8, Dd was 6. I was quiet surprised as I thought the worked it out years ago! Believing beyond about 8/9 is a bit imo. But then people believe lots of odd stuff god.

my DD asked me (she's 7) if the children in malawi get presents from Santa too. I had a really hard time with that one! I can't imagine us getting through next Christmas with her believing so this one will need to be special!

Neither of mine. DD2 will be 12. DS is 9 but he has Asperger's and just proclaimed one day, 'I know there's no Santa and it's just you and Dad buying gifts.' But they still pretend.

I recently told my dd who is 11 and a half and in year 7. Wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do, but wanted to tell her before everything turned Christmassy again. She hasn't twigged about the tooth fairy get though 🤐
