Christmas drinks for neighbours

This year I'm thinking of asking some neighbours round for Christmas drinks. There would be about 20 people. Never done this sort of thing before...

Anyone have any tips so that I'm not tied to the oven all evening and can enjoy some of it too?

I was thinking:

  1. Massive pot of mulled wine obvs.
  2. A range of non-alcoholic drinks
  3. Some beer
  4. Food: sausage rolls / mini quiche veg option. Lots of crisps and nuts etc. (assuming no nut allergies).
  5. Get the kids to hand the food round

A lovely idea, one I aspire to and then when it comes to it cannot be arsed. Maybe ask them in advance to see if they are interested?

Sounds absolutely delightful and exactly the sort of thing I’d love to go to!

I’d bake some sausage rolls, mince pies and maybe homemade cheese straws before hand, then lay out a massive cheese board, with fruit and veg around it and crackers and maybe some homemade hummous and veg and then maybe a huge bowl of trifle and dish of quality street.

Lay it out on a table somewhere and just let people help themselves. It will look like you have made lots of effort, especially if you make the sausage rolls and mince pies yourself and the cheese platter if it’s displayed beautifully and you won’t have to spend all evening in the kitchen.

Have a great time!
