Bakewell Tart for Christmas Day pudding

VampireSugarAndCorpseSpice · 23/10/2017 23:09

DM is hosting me, DH and DCsx2 for Christmas. She's phoned to say that she has ordered a family size Bakewell Tart instead of "that Christmas Pudding crap" for The Big Day. Inside I'm crying. This is so wrong. So very wrong.

I hate Bakewell Tart. I might have to smuggle in two small microwaveable Christmas Puds anyway. it's what Santa would have wanted

The Christmas pudding we bought just in case last year is still in the kitchen cupboard.

spooktato · 24/10/2017 09:18

Is there time to find a new family before Christmas?

This is your only option.
You can adopt me.I will bring a big Christmas pudding round with plenty of cream.

BathTangle · 24/10/2017 09:21

Any reason why you can't do both OP?

My DH doesn't like Christmas pudding (weirdo Smile) so he will be making treacle tart for those other heathens in my family who don't do Christmas pudding. I may eat both Grin

PortiaCastis · 24/10/2017 10:15

I think your DM has new teeth and the fruit in a Christmas pud will get under the palette, therefore rather than own up to being a mixed fruit muggle she's gone for the other option!
Suggest a bit o smuggling a la buy some puds sneak them into the house and stealthily bung in DMs microwave while she's slurping the bristol cream and too busy too notice

Bettercallsaul1 · 24/10/2017 11:13

slurping the bristol cream Grin

goose1964 · 24/10/2017 13:09

Any reason you can't take Xmas pud? My mil serves at least 3 puds on Christmas Day

NightOfTheDeadXmasFairy · 24/10/2017 13:10

Now despite being the queen of all things Xmas. I do not like Xmas pud. However, there should always be one. I would say that’s nice, iv seen a nice ‘insert chosen brand here’ Xmas pud, I’ll bring that for an additional offering.

VampireSugarAndCorpseSpice · 24/10/2017 14:16

My DM is borderline anorexic and doesn't like other people eating food either. She will be vocal about her displeasure of two puds

She doesn't drink alcohol either.

Fortunately we're going to DSis and DF's for Boxing Day where we will wish them a Merry Christmas and the words now bring us some figgy pudding.... and we won't go until we've got some will be a demand, not a Christmas song.

Hmmm, I lurve Bakewell tart. that would be amazing!

We always have two different types of trifle for Christmas pud, but my step-dad prefers a traditional pud so I buy him a little microwave one and he has it with a little brandy cream. I think it's fine to take you're own and do that tbh.

woollyminded · 24/10/2017 14:26

Bakewell Tart. No. Bleugh. Bakewell pudding though, HELL YES! Send me the adresss and a head shot OP, I'll start working on my disguise and take your place.

Bettercallsaul1 · 24/10/2017 14:28

But your Mum doesn't disapprove of other people drinking alcohol at Christmas, does she, Vampire? Shock No Christmas pud is bad enough...!

VampireSugarAndCorpseSpice · 24/10/2017 14:40

She does 😭😭😭😭

we can have one bottle of wine between four adults on Christmas Day.

Yes, I am definitely taking my own pudding to microwave. And we'll hide the brandy in the cistern in the loo.

Bakewell tart with clementine zest in the filling, the juice in the icing and cranberry jam instead of the usual jam....mm mm mm.

Bettercallsaul1 · 24/10/2017 14:55

Oh dear, Vampire, this is much worse than you first indicated. One bottle of wine amongst four for the entirety of Christmas Day is a tragic situation indeed. Sad

VampireSugarAndCorpseSpice · 24/10/2017 15:17

It gets worse. I was fantasizing and drooling over countduckula's recuse and then remembered that my mother doesn't eat citrus in any form.

I love a good drip feed, me.

You'll be saying next that she doesn't like roast potatoes...! (If she doesn't, stay at home!)

Fekko · 24/10/2017 15:52

Can't you have both (I love both and would definitely eat 2 lots of pud)?

FrogsSpawnofSanta · 24/10/2017 15:56

The co-op does mini Christmas puddings. Little bite sized ones, they are pretty good and could be taken in lieu of a box of chocolates.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/10/2017 16:46

I wouldn't bother going to her with that combination of issues, to be honest. Can't she come to you so you can at least serve the dinner you want, regardless of her issues?!

KC225 · 24/10/2017 16:51

I also do frangipane mince pies. Family hates mince pies but love frangipane mince pies. This thread has given me the idea for a big one though

VampireSugarAndCorpseSpice · 24/10/2017 17:04

@nowordforfluffy It's complicated! Grin

I think we'll have to have our Christmas Dinner the day before we go to DM's.

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 24/10/2017 17:26

Now that's a good idea!

Austentatious · 24/10/2017 17:31

I would love bakewell tart for christmas lunch! (and we have a cockerell or two instead of a turkey because they're tastier)

Lovemusic33 · 24/10/2017 17:35

My daughter would be so happy if I served Bakewell tart for Christmas. It's much better than Christmas pudding, I prefer to eat Christmas pudding when I'm less full as it's so rich.

TwitterQueen1 · 24/10/2017 17:36

Tis sad news indeed. I wonder if you could compromise on trifle? Everyone know that you have to have a trifle at Christmas!!

Obviously made with lashings of cream, raspberries, almonds, sponge fingers soaked in sherry and jelly.
