Is there anything you're flatly refusing to get the kids this year? I always avoid toilet-humour themed board games/story books/sweets and character toys.

OP posts:
JennyOnAPlate · 23/10/2017 13:53

The two goes and relegated to the back of the cupboard is exactly what I fear @Exercisejunkieforlife...that works out at £15 a go! Hmm

ineedwine99 · 23/10/2017 13:56

Anything Peppa Pig. She's only 14m old so thankfully cant ask for things yet and has never seen PP, but my stepdad knows i hate it so keeps tormenting me saying he'll buy her something.

Nanasueathome · 23/10/2017 14:00

I now have the luvabella doll advert at the top of the page

MinorRSole · 23/10/2017 14:04

Those overpriced LOL balls - no idea why they cost that much
Hatchimals - strongly suspect they’ll be as shit as furby’s
Chocolate coin maker, as pp it’s on the list every year but nope!
Giant piano floor mat, no space and it will just annoy me
Drum kit - he’s 16 and should know better than to ask!

ineedwine99 · 23/10/2017 14:12

Luvabella - £100 for a doll?! WTF!
I am WAY out of touch with kids toys

SpiritedLondon · 23/10/2017 14:42

No Shopkins here.... I can't even work out what the hell they are and they are a pain to store.

PaddysMarket · 23/10/2017 14:48

Hatchimals are mentioned on this thread quite a lot so I've deleted them from my wish list on Amazon, my 2 DC's have been asking for one but I didn't really fancy buying as the price was putting me off.

I'm definitely not buying any Playmobile this year, hours to build up....minutes to mess it up.

TheDizzyRascal · 23/10/2017 14:55

@jennyonaplate - the bead things are available on eBay for a couple of quid a pack, you just put them in water and they grow, my sons nursery used to use them as a sensory activity and we still get them now sometimes for something to play with, they are nice to play with lol. Search "water beads" and put them in a bucket, job done Wink xxx

Mummaofboys · 23/10/2017 15:03

Mr Dusty, a bin wagon shaped toy that helps you tidy up other toys, basically a dust pan shaped like a bin wagon for the eye watering price of £50.

Xuli · 23/10/2017 15:04

Definitely Hatchimels. I mean, how much?!

WhatAPunch · 23/10/2017 16:06

"this Magic sand crap"

I got some of it half price and it has been played with loads. it comes out once in a while and has to be played with at kitchen table (like playdoh). I love it, it feels really nice.

We met a nice family this week and my DC came home from the park gutted because the other kids had a drone and an electric ride in car at the park. I said Santa wouldn't be bringing them.

SpiritedLondon · 23/10/2017 16:14

You can get little hatchimal toys for under £10. I think they're just key rings really but they're not minuscule and still come in the egg with different " flavours" inside. Maybe a compromise?

MinorRSole · 23/10/2017 16:20

I got some of those mini eggs, 3 for £4.99 from smyths but only 1 is still in the egg I think. Hopefully it will appease the dc’s. I did see a bargain one for £7.99, looks like a hatchimal but has a puzzle inside - for those who want to give the gift of disappointment at Christmas

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 23/10/2017 16:24

Luvabella- its creepy and is like a cross between Chucky and Annabelle

This in triplicate!!!!!! ^^^

just5morepeas · 23/10/2017 16:29

I bought some Magic sand from Argos a while back and it gets played with loads. Didn't buy the brand name one though, it was this: www.argos.co.uk/product/4626978 You get loads of different colours of sand (still have some left unopened and we got it last christmas) a big tray and loads of tools and moulds. Seemed much better value than the magic or kinetic stuff.

Santa however, will not be bringing one of those silly dolls that eats and poops noodles.

BastardGoDarkly · 23/10/2017 16:31

Have to agree on the sand.

DD loves it, and its surprisingly tidy!

BelfastSmile · 23/10/2017 16:31

DS is 3, and asked for Cinnamon Flakes, a toaster (a toy one), and an iPad. I suggested replacing the iPad with a Milky Bar instead, and he's happy enough with that!

I also ban games relating to poo/bogies/anything gross; guns if any kind; noisy flashing plastic crap; and too much branded stuff (don't mind a small Paw Patrol car, but he's not getting the entire tower thing when a plain one would be about a third of the price!).

I also think a lot of adults look back with regret at not getting a particular toy (usually Mr Frosty), so I'm thinking of my restrictions as being character building and giving them something to talk to other people about in the future.

Cantchooseaname · 23/10/2017 16:32

Anyone contemplating orbeezz...
They are just water beads In a foot / hand spa. 99p from eBay.
Nothing fancy. Stick a bit of water in with them- job jobbed.
Be warned- when they bounce around and get squished they get messy, but before that - very tactile/ sensory.

BelfastSmile · 23/10/2017 16:33

Is Magic sand the same as Kinetic sand? Because Kinetic sand is awesome, and played with daily in our house!

BastardGoDarkly · 23/10/2017 16:37

Yes, magic/moon/kinetic. All the same stuff.

I may get dd some more...

Zapdos · 23/10/2017 16:41

My two DSs (7 and 4) LOVE magic/kinetic sand (so do I). We play with it on trays at the kitchen table and there is hardly any mess at all. DS2 got some for Christmas two years' ago and it still gets played with regularly.

Hatchimals are also still a firm favourite one year on, so much so they have both put another on their list this year (BIGGER!! SPARKLY!!) Sadly, as they are so popular, Santa has said only one hatchimal per child, so they won't be getting another...

tapdancingmum · 23/10/2017 16:48

Mine are too old for toys now Sad but had the moon sand many years ago and the stuff was fabulous. Came in its own inflatable tray so could only be used at the table but got played with loads. Better than play dough. I had the chocolate bar dispenser as a child and love it. Put 2p in and get a chocolate. At the end you had enough money to replace the bars from Woolworths (really showing my age now Blush)

My DD2 loved her dolls but I would never justify spending £100 on one.

Being back the plastic tat as I really miss it now.

WhatAPunch · 23/10/2017 16:50

Cheapie stuff here. Nearly always on offer in The Entertainer. Works perfectly.

I've just made the mistake of asking DC if they've heard of hatchimals.

Lego Mindstorms on the Santa isn't buying list here. Looks amazing though.

What won't Santa be touching with a bargepole?
NachoAddict · 23/10/2017 16:51

The DocMobile from Doc McStuffins, £60 and every review said it was crap.
Hatichimal
Chocolate toy maker

susurration · 23/10/2017 16:52

Having no children and my nieces only being 2 & 4 yrs old, I've no idea about any of the stuff posted on this thread. So I googled it and wow there is some expensive crap out there these days!

I'm also sure that certain things like that braid machine were around about 20 years ago when I was a kid and shit then too. No wonder my parents used to dread us getting the Argos catalogue.
