Every year I'm stuck on this one. We may do a budget solution this year and get ourselves a couple things we want like a nice grill pan but I'd still like to get him something ... not a very materialistic guy, likes sports, reads a bit, loves musical theatre...

I get him his stocking - nice socks, Molten Brown toiletries, a tie, a book, something more personal like a photo of the children or dog for his offices, chocolate, cinema voucher, a shirt etc. Then last year I booked a short break in the Lakes - which he loved. I shall do similar this year.

Trumpton · 21/10/2017 08:47

Symphony
I will hold on a while before ordering as Christmas is still 2 months away...a bit long to hang onto them in case they don't fit !

Also thinking about wireless headphones with noise cancelling for his trips away .

FusionChefGeoff · 21/10/2017 08:50

How about a subscription for a sports magazine? Or a digital subscription to The Times - DH says they have the best sports coverage.

LexieLulu · 21/10/2017 08:54

I haven't read the whole thread yet so sorry if this is a cross post.

My DH is quite hard to buy for, he doesn't play computer game, doesn't wear football/rugby shirts etc.

A few years ago I bought a remote control helicopter as his joke gift. He ended up playing with it all day. And the kids loved it too. Sometimes the big kid likes to come out

3luckystars · 21/10/2017 09:01

I’m trying to gather ideas too.

TheWoollybacksWife · 21/10/2017 11:21

DH is getting tickets for a comedy gig and a computer game. I also bought mini toblerones at duty free last month as he only likes the milk chocolate variety and they’re not available in shops.

isambardo · 21/10/2017 11:29

I'm buying dh a day learning to whittle a wooden spoon with a local green woodworker. + pants and socks, obvs.

Gig tickets are a great idea!

JingsMahBucket · 21/10/2017 12:45

Last year I read about a curry subscription on 2016's thread and parked it in the back of my mind for this year. I'll probably buy him a 3-month subscription from The Spicery: www.thespicery.com. We're also trying to declutter and I don't want to fill the house with anymore crap.

If not the curry, then possibly a genealogy test from Ancestry.com. Although, I think I may do that for his birthday next July.

iheartmyponeh · 21/10/2017 13:27

Tickets for 'an evening with Brian Blessed' with a dirty night away in a fancy country house hotel. And a jumper with a yeti on it.

NC4now · 21/10/2017 13:30

Sometimes we share eg one year we booked a weekend in Berlin, this year we might treat ourselves to a new telly. Then just bits like booze, chocolate, novelty mugs etc.

FrankieStein · 21/10/2017 13:39

Geeky dressing gown, Theatre tickets, aftershave, razor blades and something from the massive collectables collection he’s after.
My guy is a geeky gamer, so there’s always something new he wants coming out. (I won’t buy Xbox games for presents, he just trades them in when he’s done, so I don’t see the point)

13luckyblackcats · 24/10/2017 14:21

Spicery sounds excellent, going on my list JingsMahBucket

SideOrderofSprouts · 24/10/2017 15:53

Fucking cyanide if he keeps moaning

—I do love him really—

13luckyblackcats · 24/10/2017 16:01

Is he moaning about Christmas SideOrderofSprouts? 🙁

CarrotVan · 24/10/2017 16:27

@13lucky

Holy Grass, Ogilvy and Arbikie are all nice Scottish vodkas. Ogilvy and Arbikie also do gins

Chase do nice vodka and gin

Manchester has Three Rivers and Zygmorgium

If you look for a city that's meaningful to you then you'll probably find a micro distillery thereabouts

Crispsheets · 24/10/2017 16:31

We are doing nice stockings for each other and buying a laptop together in December. We are moving in together in January Grin
Going forward it will be little breaks, gigs, theatre trips etc.
We don't need "stuff".

13luckyblackcats · 24/10/2017 18:55

@CarrotVan thanks for the suggestions! I love the idea of a local vodka, can’t believe I haven’t thought of that. Sophisticated stocking taking shape...

MammaGnomes · 24/10/2017 22:21

Ilovetea: where/how did you find the GOT tour? DP has a birthday just before Christmas and this would be perfect for that.

Planning on getting him the echo for Christmas. Hopefully in black Friday deal

Zaphodsotherhead · 24/10/2017 23:37

My OH doesn't like anything, but my son is getting a rally driving experience. He's been passed his test for two years and does a lot of road driving, so I hope the rallying will increase his 'off road' experience. Also getting him a 'coffee and classic book' subscription, where you get about 100g of different coffees every month, and a classic book.

OH - I have no idea what to get. He doesn't read, wear fragrances, buys all his clothes at a really cheap shop, doesn't like any food not burned to extinction and never reads. I've given up with him.

kaytee87 · 25/10/2017 10:48

Last year I got him an amazon echo, aftershave, PJs and some clothes I think.

DelurkingAJ · 25/10/2017 21:51

DH has requested a drone. On further interrogation he has admitted that he’d be happy with a toy one. So have bought him a custom multi-aperture photo frame for his new office wall (had some professional family shots done this year that are now sitting around in the box). May also by him a kitchen subscription of some type (did a 6 month one a few years back that he loved...posh vinegar and random spice mixes etc.). Need to buy from both DS too (18 months and 5...could let 5 year old chose but he’d just go for Lego which is traditionally FH’s birthday present from DSs). Stocking is nicer than usual everyday stuff (so posh chocs, nicer moisturiser etc.) which I really enjoy doing. Last year we bought each other iPhones as we both needed a new phone.

DelurkingAJ · 25/10/2017 21:52

That’s in addition to a much cheaper than I’d feared drone!

SideOrderofSprouts · 25/10/2017 22:05

No he was ‘ill’

With something I already had

So took himself to bed

In reality he gets toiletries, Star Wars construction kits and he would like a drone too 🙄

SharkSkinThing · 25/10/2017 22:08

Vinyl. Yet more fucking vinyl.

MaisyPops · 25/10/2017 22:11

He finds exactly what he wants linked to one of his hobbies and then sends me thr link (or he orders it and then informs me what his present is).

I do smaller presents ahd stockings fir him.

I prefer it that way as I don't kniw enough about his hobbies to get the right item.
