What's everyone doing for Christmas Dessert?

I usually do triffle and little Christmas puddings but feel like a change this year as some of the guests are not overly keen on them, although they will eat them.

I've been looking through recipes and the one I think will appeal to everyone is Chestnut puree Mont Blanc. Would love to hear what you are doing (incase I change my mind...again!)

Stilton and Port for pudding.

ShowOfHands · 15/10/2017 07:51

One of the joys of Christmas is being able to eat junk from bags and packets. Even our roast potatoes are pre-made

We had this debate at work the other day. A couple of colleagues agree with this. I'm in the other camp. One of the joys of Christmas is creating a 100% homemade meal. I'm already pulling out recipe books, trialling different stuffings and practising the perfect roast potato.

I usually make a diabetic Christmas pudding (3 diabetics in my wider family) but this year I'm making a traditional one and a separate diabetic pudding of a different sort. Trifle (white chocolate and raspberry) is for boxing day, Apple pie is for Christmas Eve and there is always Christmas cake and mince pies too.

goose1964 · 15/10/2017 15:07

Christmas pudding but usually a couple of hours after the main course

yawning801 · 15/10/2017 15:10

We had chocolate mousse and trifle last year, not sure about this year!

Ropsleybunny · 15/10/2017 15:11

I always make homemade Christmas pud and syrup sponge pudding and custard. You can stick trifle, I really hate it. 😝

clary · 15/10/2017 15:13

I used to do an extremely delicious baked chocolate mousse cake - loads of eggs, choc and cream - but last few times no one wanted any and it doesn't really keep v well.

So last year I just did my usual fruit platter (loads of lush fruit you wouldn't buy in December, raspberries, pineapple etc) and that's all. There were mini chocolate mousses in the fridge tho.

No one is hungry! I make something nice for B Day - usually nigellas chocohotopots from Feast.

I'm potentially cooking for 16 so need large amounts of servings. I've done this self saucing chocolate pudding before and it turned out really well. Super easy.

I make the stollen wreath from the same site every year as it was instantly popular. That also serves the masses (or only a few greedy men!).

lydiangel83 · 15/10/2017 18:09

Ooh @DrRisotto I like the sound of stollen ring could u share link pls?!

DeadDoorpost · 15/10/2017 18:13

We have a selection... Apple crumble and custard, vienetta, trifle, DH will also have Christmas pudding... and then there's sweets and chocolate in a bowl on the side we can help ourselves to as and when...

My parents on the other hand also have, besides what I've mentioned: mince pies, cookies, hot chocolates, gateauxs of some sort, cheesecakes, jelly...

lynmilne65 · 15/10/2017 18:19

Pavlova and triffids!!

lynmilne65 · 15/10/2017 18:21

If you cant be greedy at Christmas........

LibertyHill · 15/10/2017 18:53

These desserts are all making my mouth water. Thanks for sharing everyone.

Piccolino2 - I must look up Nigella's Mont Blanc recipe. I've never had it and think maybe I should do a trial run (any excuse) to taste it first.

70isaLimitNotaTarget - Porridge oats in crumble is a fab idea.

ShowOfHands - I find I must do everything from scratch at Christmas too. White chocolate and raspberry trifle sounds so delicious, I might make that for boxing day.

Lydiangel83 - Stollen Ring sounds intriguing, please share!

Can anyone link to a pavlova wreath?
We have xmas pudding and cheeseboard normally hours after Christmas din. Everything is home made fifteen the dinner my dh starts the gravy 2 days before roasting chicken wings etc we drink litres of it, it us truly amazing

JaneEyre70 · 15/10/2017 19:01

I always make a white chocolate and raspberry trifle the day before....really easy and more assembly than baking! I've also made Yule logs as the DDs love it with vanilla ice cream, and my dad always makes mince pies that we warm with lashings of cream on! Dh loves pannacotta, again so so easy to do ahead and serve with berries and cream. My rule is something I can do the day before so it's sat waiting in the fridge Grin.

HolyShmoly · 15/10/2017 19:03

Lemon curd and raspberry cheesecake with a ginger base. DM will also make a trifle. Might make a third as well. A family horde shows up later in the day to take care of any whisper of leftovers.

That sloe gin and spiced berry eton mess sounds amazing @FenellaMaxwellsPony do you have a recipe and is the amount of gin negligible? Preggo here and don't want to miss out!

BlaWearie · 15/10/2017 19:37

2014newme just Google Tesco pavlova wreath, sorry I can't add a link. It's really simple to make.

DrRisotto · 15/10/2017 22:25

No problem, Stollen Wreath recipe here

didireallysaythat · 15/10/2017 22:50

Can anyone share their apple pie recipe ?

DS1 doesn't like sweet things, DS2 would prefer a yoghurt, DH likes a block of chocolate with a cuppa. I think I'll be making myself an apple pie. To have with a spoon of mascarpone.

A1Sharon · 16/10/2017 01:33

did I made this apple cake recipe recently and it was super easy and yummy, if you fancy an alternative to pie?
Here.

MusicToMyEars800 · 16/10/2017 19:06

Has to be a lovely, tasty yule log, smothered in chocolate buttercream icing Grin

ja9r · 16/10/2017 22:44

lidl!

Today i picked this up in lidl for £6. I'm going to use it for guests later in the week but if its half as good as it looks i'll be back for another for christmas dessert. i usually make a christmassy spice meringue which i love but my family don't get excited about.

Bloodybridget · 16/10/2017 23:02

I have made this before - bonet, an Italian dessert that's a sort of rich amaretti-thickened custard with a caramel coating. It was delicious, and not too heavy.

PickleSarnie · 17/10/2017 09:14

I think I've put on 5lbs just reading this thread.
