What's everyone doing for Christmas Dessert?

I usually do triffle and little Christmas puddings but feel like a change this year as some of the guests are not overly keen on them, although they will eat them.

I've been looking through recipes and the one I think will appeal to everyone is Chestnut puree Mont Blanc. Would love to hear what you are doing (incase I change my mind...again!)

No one likes Christmas pudding here, so I do a baked lemon cheesecake with a ginger nut biscuit base, served with good vanilla ice cream.

dollybird · 13/10/2017 22:13

We always go to MIL's for Christmas Day, but have her and my parents over for Christmas Eve dinner. The last two years I made a 'Christmas Crumble' with a recipe from the Sainsbury's magazine. It's bloody lovely!

highinthesky · 13/10/2017 22:14

I like trifle but on Christmas Day, fridge space is at a premium.

And then it’s suddenly empty by evening on Boxing Day when all the leftovers have been hoovered up.

isawahatonce · 13/10/2017 22:16

surely the best part of christmas dessert is having for more options than is necessary. We usually do a christmas pudding, a trifle, a gateau and at least two other things - I'm thinking apple pie this year since we're hosting. I'd also like to have a go at making a gingerbread house, though I'm sure it's more likely to be a gingerbread heap.

xyzandabc · 13/10/2017 22:18

I do profiteroles filled with ice cream, piled up in a big dish/plate then drowned in hot chocolate sauce. Also do a mean chocolate log but can't have both at the same time as apparently some people think it's too much chocolate. I can't really understand that thought myself.

Lindy2 · 13/10/2017 22:26

I'm doing a Key Lime Pie this year, along with a shop bought Christmas pud. The kids have also recently discovered Vienetta and thought it was the best thing ever. I'll get one just to keep them happy.

Stompythedinosaur · 13/10/2017 22:35

Good thread! We have mulled wine icecream last year. Considering profiteroles or pavlova this year.

witherwings · 13/10/2017 22:39

We have Christmas pudding. Also love mince pies and for some reason fruit salad has become a tradition in our house. It has to have everything in it, the most exotic fruit you can find. It's really refreshing after booze and chocolate and a huge roast dinner the rest of the day.

Chocolate steam puddings with melted chocolate insides for DC.
Proper Christmas pud for us. Spiced toffee yule log (for a change - always do chocolate.)
Boxing Day trifle. Haven't made one for a couple of years and DC love it.

If we have family over then I make Christmas Pudding and an apple pie.

Last year it was just us (DH, DS, DD and me) so I took the Christmas Pudding to DParents for New Year.

This year-
I'll do some individual steamed syrup puddings
chocolate brownie
buy a couple of Haagen Das

For other days/lighter meal days-
apple crumble (I make the crumble with part porridge oats)

baked cheesecake (pecan and toffee)

I had a recipe for lemon pudding a while ago (baked and you get sauce on the bottom) need to look that out

Theworldisfullofidiots · 13/10/2017 22:50

We do miniature puddings in shot glasses. You can have a little or a lot.

Mustang27 · 13/10/2017 23:17

Pear and gingerbread trifle is a good un. I’m due round about Christmas so it will be a m&s special for all the courses. I’m not loving the idea as I normally make it all from scratch but maybe it will teach me there is more to Christmas than spending 3 days in the kitchen lol.

mathanxiety · 15/10/2017 04:51

Christmas Eve:
Pavlova
Buche de Noel

Christmas Day:
Tiramisu
Pumpkin pie
Mince pies

FixItUpChappie · 15/10/2017 05:39

I plan on trying Mary Berry's Christmas Pavlova wreath.....which will be my first attempt at anything so fancy and I've never had a pavlova in my life. Still, it looked so pretty and reasonable when I saw her make it on tv Grin

Here is a picture of it:

It's always only us, so it's usually Christmas stocking filler chocolates.

EvilDoctorBallerinaVampireDuck · 15/10/2017 05:47

macnab Black Forest mmmmm 😋

pingoose · 15/10/2017 05:55

Like a few others I'm planning a pavlova wreath with berries. My favourite and can be made the day before. There will also be Christmas cake (probably Nigella's recipe).

lydiangel83 · 15/10/2017 06:09

Placemarking as making Christmas dinner for first time this year and with a newborn...

SuperBeagle · 15/10/2017 06:23

Would normally be pavlova, apple pie, and Christmas pudding which only two people eat because Christmas pudding is utterly vile

But we'll be in Scotland this year so'll probably be having dessert wherever we're eating!

HashtagTired · 15/10/2017 06:26

Profiteroles. Perfect combination of chocolate, light and airy, cream and yummyness. Yes it’s old school, but my fave!

churchilllounge · 15/10/2017 06:31

I did the pavlova wreaths last year. It was really easy, looked brilliant, cheap and tasted lush.

picklemepopcorn · 15/10/2017 06:50

My family don't like dried fruit, so we have ice cream bombe of some kind, or a pavlova, or occasionally a baked Alaska. They are all make ahead and assemble on the day. We have dinner at noon, and pudding in the evening.

I also make lots of little meringues to have with lemon curd and extra thick cream. No work involved and deliciously decadent!

Idontmeanto · 15/10/2017 07:35

For a family of 19, over 3 days, we’ll have Christmas pudding, mince pies and brandy butter, cheeseboard, Yule log, trifle, pannatone, gingerbread children’s concoction, fruit salad and a traditional Christmas cake. People just have what they fancy from that selection at any given meal.

GinYummy · 15/10/2017 07:40

I love Christmas pudding, pavlova and mince pies. Sadly no one else in my family does! So I tend to order these when we are out and about in the lead up to the big day.
I think it will be black forest trifle and Ice cream this year.
