Christmas eve food ideas

I'm trying to plan our Christmas eve food. It needs to be special as it's our little family day before we trundle down on Christmas day to the big event with extended family. I also haven't made plans yet for us so need ideas for them to. It'll be 3 of us , me Dh and ds (2)
So far I'm thinking a nice homemade soup with lots of bread rolls for supper. We will go to midnight mass so need to fit food in around that. Perhaps a cheese board for dh and I in the evening. So I suppose I'm looking for a main meal for around lunchtime.
Any ideas?

I always do a huge pot (or 2!) of stovies with crusty bread and feed half the neighbours and their kids too!
So easy to do and dish up and fills everyone up well.
We have a 'north pole breakfast' earlier in December just for the kids.

What are stovies?

I thought I had it planned but yesterday dh made macaroni cheese. Oh my it was glorious. I'm now considering getting him to cook that for lunch and I'll do a buffet dinner.

I always cook a cranberry and marmalade gammon in the morning, then we go out to visit friends and go to church and come home to the ham, jacket potatoes, pineapple salsa and salad. Its so easy and gives leftovers other than turkey.

Stovies are Scottish, basically mince veg potatoes and gravy in one big pot 😋
