Started my Christmas and birthday shopping shopping for dd aged 6 in jan. I started friday night and only have clothes, sweets and the hard to find LOL SUPRISE DOLLS. How may gifts would you do off Santa, of mummy and for birthday. Looking at about 50 including smellies. Prob 35 toys.

50 each? No Def not in this house. I imagine more like 15 each maybe less plus stocking.

We do 1 present for birthdays. Something they have asked for maximum about £50 depending what it is or if they haven't asked for anything a ticket for an activity/experience such as high ropes, Segway safari etc.

Christmas: santa brings the stocking which usually includes smelliest, toothbrush, socks, sweets, little bits like match attax or trashies etc

I've never thought to count present from us at Christmas but I would say usually about 20 max but that includes clothes, books, Christmas Eve PJ's etc

We've been on a long term goal of whittling down the number of gifts. Each year it's cut a bit more, especially as the gifts tend to get more expensive as they get older! Maybe 10 at most each - and that includes a book (always), a pack of sweets, a bit of clothing, plus some fun socks (tradition lol).

BoyGirlBoy3 · 01/10/2017 15:56

Do you mean £50?

If so 1 medium(£10) 2 small(£2) birthday
large (£20) medium (£10) 3 small (£2) Christmas

Its more than enough, she won't really notice which come from santa or parents at that age. I just wrote there names on the tag.

If you mean 50 gifts, 30 for xmas 20 for birthday, but she really doesn't need that many i wouldn't think.

We do 1 gift from Father Christmas, stockings and the rest of us. I'm not sure how many I am to have under the tree - maybe 10? Then will have little bits/sweets/stationary in stocking and new pjs & slippers Xmas eve. For birthdays we do one large present and a few little ones

35 gifts including stationary pens colouring books normal books and toys. 50 including smellies I buy her smellies to last the year for Christmas. Was thinking 20 gifts Xmas 15 bday of the toys and bits. Smellies split between the two and clothes between the two also. Out of the 20 for Xmas was thinking stocking and 4 or 5 of Santa rest of me. Think that sound ok?

What are smellies and why does a 6 year old uses more than one a month? I thought smellies were perfumed lotions and bath bombs adults used.

In our house we do:

Birthdays: 1 present

Christmas: 1 large present, 4 small presents.

Financially at the moment we are good, however I do not know what the future holds. If next Christmas we are bad financially, I am confident I could find a way of still getting the same amount of Christmas presents.
Also as the DC get older their large present will be more expensive, I will start dropping the smaller presents.

50 gifts??? 35 toys?? Shock
And there’s me thinking I’ve gone waaay ott getting ds 18 gifts which includes toys, clothes, books, sweets....

Birthdays they get 1 big gift from mummy and daddy and 4 small gifts, one from each of the siblings.

No kid needs 50 odd presents. It’s just so excessive

Chrisinthemorning · 01/10/2017 18:20

50 toys or £50?
We will spend more than £50 on DS, probably nearer £150 -200!by the time we've finished.
He won't get 50 toys though, that's crazy, where would we keep them all?

Bumbumtaloo · 01/10/2017 19:02

My two dd’s have 16 presents each, these include pyjamas, dressing gowns, slippers, books.

Dd1’s birthday is the 28th December and she so far has two presents from us - she asked for a Nintendo DS so she has that with an inbuilt game and an extra game. Will get her a couple more bits and bobs but they will be from dd2 to her.

anyoldname76 · 01/10/2017 20:12

my dc get around 4 or 5 gifts on their birthdays. at Christmas they get 15 presents inc a main present, they get around 5 stocking fillers plus a satsuma and choc coins, and on Christmas eve they get new pjs.

CakeNinja · 01/10/2017 20:13

Birthdays we usually get ours about 10 presents to open.
Christmas, they have between 30-40 stocking things from Father Christmas (they have large pillowcases), and maybe 10-15 things each from us under the tree.
The girls are older, no toys, stockings include things like makeup, lush bath bombs, personalised Nutella jars, stationery (Kikki K do a monogramming service as do Chroma), can't think what else, but all stuff they use.
Ds is 6 so he has a lot of toys still.
