LeapFrog LeapStart preschool vs primary ?

Does anyone have one of these for their DC?

Was thinking of getting Ds one for Christmas but don't know much about them.
He will be 3.4.

The preschool one says ages 2-4, the primary one 5-7.

Ds knows colours, alphabet/phonics, numbers to about 25, basic shapes up to hexagon, pentagon but nothing tougher.

He can't read, put letters together to make sounds or do sums.

I don't want to get the preschool one if it's going to be teaching stuff he already knows - then will have to fork out again for the primary one and more books etc to go with it - but don't want to get him one that's too difficult for him and has to be put away for a year or so.

Does anyone have either to tell me what they are like and which one would be more suitable for him?

Thanks

I don't know how the preschool one differs really. As far as I can remember when I set up my son's (the primary one) it would play either the primary or the preschool books so you could simply select the most suitable books.

I haven't been overly impressed with it, my son is autistic and obsessed with both Leapfrog products and this sort of noisy interactive toy but he has only been moderately interested. That is unusual for him, I expected it to be a massive hit. I wasn't impressed with the books myself, at times I couldn't work out what they expected a child to do.

If is is still possible to get the Tag pen I found that to be much better. We have had regular Tag and Junior and they have both been heavily played with.

Thanks for your reply lili.

Handy to know that the books seem compatible with each other, or at least both book ranges are compatible with the primary one. Not sure what the point of them selling two different gadgets is then?.. If you can put books into either. Will have a look into that and see if there are any differences.

It looks like the tag is now replaced with something called leap reader - will have a look into that now. Thanks again.
