We will be staying with family from 23rd till after new year. Would you get a tree? A real tree? I know the kids will want one so I'll probably have to but it seems a waste!

In similar circumstances we did although we were back a bit sooner. Plus I love a tree.

I love one too, I'm kind of sad even if I do one it will be all lonely and dark on Christmas Day. If I get a real one my house will be filled with needles when I get back.

Get one on 1st December, it will be all sad and droopy anyway by 22nd and you can strip it then and put it by the bins on 23rd morning as you leave Smile.

Get a fake one for years like this. Done this before and coming home to a "dead" tree with needles all over the floor isn't nice. A fake one doesn't make a difference regardless of how many days it's there and there is some lovely ones out there these days.

Didiusfalco · 25/09/2017 17:46

I think I'd use that as an excuse to put my decorations up right at the start of December Smile

We're also away from 23rd December... we usually get a real tree but I'm thinking if investing in a decent fake one this year... ours will go up on Sat 2nd December this year.

Trudee · 25/09/2017 18:38

We were away last year from the 22nd and had a fake one instead of the usual real one. I couldn't go without one, though we did go without quite a few of the other decs

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/09/2017 19:09

Always have, even when we've been going away, but that's not been very often. I'd put it up about week before we left, and enjoyed it when we get back.
We were away last year - 12 of us in a converted pub for a week - still had a tree at home.

We still get one when we are away! On another note, we got our real tree from IKEA on the 1st December, watered it regularly with water and lemonade and it still looked perfect on the 1st Jan when we took it down!

One year when we were away over Christmas I got one of those twiggy light-up artificial trees which you can put decorations on. It was such a hit (and no mess - and literally seconds to set up!) that we kept it again the following year when we were home!

Reppin · 26/09/2017 07:50

If I am home we have 2 trees. A real one with all the nice decorations and a fake pre-lit one. I only put the fake one up if we are away and don't bother with all the decorations, but it still looks lovely. I put my tree up straight after Thanksgiving though, so have over a month to enjoy it.

Scribblegirl · 26/09/2017 07:53

Lemonade,rach? Am intrigued...!

rachrach2 · 26/09/2017 08:06

Must be full sugar lemonade! I also read anti freeze is good but poisonous to dogs so have never tried that.

Discotits · 26/09/2017 08:08

Definitely get one! What rat said about getting it early.

Ohyesiam · 26/09/2017 10:19

We ate always away for Christmas, and I always have a tree.
A couple of times we have got a tree branch and had a "twig "tree, which looks good, one we sprayed it white. Saved needles on the floor.
