I've done this more than once, found the things a month or so after Christmas. . And the other day while rooting around in an over-stuffed cupboard found a nice leather washbag I bought for son in law last year, at dd's suggestion, before finding out that he wanted slippers.

So that's him sorted for this year, but I'd forgotten it completely.

I don't think I've ever forgotten a gift but I have lost some, and by the time they turned up the dc had outgrown that particular interest.

Not forgotten I'd bought them, but forgotten where I'd put them so not found till after Christmas. Last year I bought an Advent calendar, put it away till Dec, searched high and low when the 1st came round, nothing. Found it a few weeks later in exactly the place I would have expected it to be. Hoping it'll still be there on the 1st Dec this year.

Yes do this all the time particularly with stocking presents that I collect as and when I see something.

This happened to me a few years ago and ever since then I keep list of exactly what I've bought and who it's for! I have many documents in my Google docs for Birthdays and Christmas, going back about 5 years so I can ensure I don't give any duplicates. I often buy things without a particular person in mind and then check my list to see who's got a birthday coming up etc. Works well for me!

I found a wrapped pair of Xmas socks lurking on top of the wardrobe where I keep stocking presents last year from the year before. Luckily it was from a multipack so I just unwrapped them and added them to DS's sock drawer (he was 4 so didn't notice!).
