Argos 3for2 and smyths 20% off - not happening?

Are these not happening this year?
I know they weren't always the great deals they purported to be but I often got a few things cheaper than elsewhere.

I've heard rumours that the Argos 3for2 might be starting on 27th Sept...

There was a thread recently about 20% off at Smyths, a few posters had asked in store and all were told it wasn't happening this year unfortunately.
