For my 66 year old mum who lives alone but enjoys the finer things in life! So far I have some really nice balsamic vinegar, pesto bruschetta bites, pasta sauce and pasta. Will get some nice chocolate truffles. Struggling to think of what else!

Nice cheese and luxury crackers. Fruit cake, bottles of wine.

Things I would like would include:

Really good paté.
Olives.
Caper berries
A jar of Maille cornichons extra fins from Waitrose or www.frenchclick.co.uk (and have a browse of their stuff in general for ideas)
Salami
A jar of Gentleman's Relish
Quince paste
Little savoury nibbly biscuits
Very dark chocolate
Benedick's bittermints
Florentines

Luxury extra:
A bottle of small batch gin or single malt.

Would you put homemade stuff in? Maybe some homemade limoncello and chutney? (Can you tell I've just jarred up some green tomato chutney?! Made Christmassy with dried cranberries, sultanas and cinnamon, of courseGrin)

I did a hamper for my GPs last year (in their eighties). I made ginger biscuits, chocolate covered walnuts/brazils (easy to make) and Paul Hollywood's spiced Christmas bread (took bloody ages to make), and some other things like little jams. But thank you, because this thread will give me inspiration for this year's hamper!

Single serve bottles of champagne! Pommery do one as do Veuve. My mum lives alone but still likes a glass of fizz every now and then, but can't (thank god) polish off an entire bottle, so they work a treat.

Gorgeous ideas, thank you! Yes I forgot I've made some spiced peach and lime chutney and will do some shallots.

Ignore the pasta you've already covered that! I got carried away! I love Christmas, and food. Great thread and some lovely suggestions here too.
Some top quality smoked salmon is classic, with burford brown eggs.

I've done a hamper before and added lots of special or luxury bits from Waitrose. Also included a few everyday favourites too.

I also added some Duchy range, which was cheaper than buying the pre-boxed hamper!
