What can I buy for DS?

He's 3 early next year and his birthday is around the same time. So the presents I buy I would like him to enjoy at least half if not more of the year. What were your 2.5-4 year olds into at that age?
So far we have brought him a proper bike with stabilisers.

I would get a garden toy as Birthday and xmas are close together and in winter it's gives something new for them in the summer especially if you can't afford a expensive garden toy as just a treat mid year

DS was 3 last January so we had exactly the same dilemma. We do a summer birthday with some of our present budget put aside for an outdoor toy, he's too young to understand the value of the gifts he receives at Christmas so doesn't feel he's missing out.

Last year, across his Christmas and birthday, he got:

• Extra track and trains for his Brio train set
• Play Doh
• A teepee
• Extra bits for his toy kitchen (more food, a coffee machine etc)
• Duplo
• A dolls house with extra figures and an outdoor playground
• Role play toys (doctor's set, police helmet etc)
• Oekaki wooden drawing house
