I know, I know, it's only June, but .... stocking fillers for men...

Family tradition is Christmas stockings for all, including adults of all ages. I've learnt over the years that the best value stocking fillers are stumbled across throughout the year, rather than buying expensive Christmas tat nearer the event. I don't go actively Christmas shopping but if I see things, i buy them. I've picked up some bargain jewellery from Boots for DD today. But she is much easier to buy stocking fillers for than young adult DSs & DH anyway. So what should I be looking for in the sales between now and then for the fellas? (Can't actually believe I'm writing this, was just buying the stuff today that got me thinking)

OP, you're a woman after my own heart! I stoned 2lb of cherries today to make the Christmas cherry brandy, and have been mocked for thinking of Christmas in July! No helpful ideas for stocking fillers just now, but I'll have a think.

user073795 · 01/07/2017 18:25

OP it is July, not June. Also under 6 months till the big day so it's perfectly acceptable to start planning Christmas

I put a very very small penknife in dh's last year from Heinnie Haynes spider knife I think he bloody loved it more than his main present.

After shave balm

InfiniteSheldon · 01/07/2017 18:31

Honeybee is doubled in price in eighteen months!!! Perhaps not for a stocking at £23 Blush

Thinking of getting this motion activated light. Depends whether you want a joke item or not. I reckon that initially he will not be too impressed but over a few weeks will come to love it Grin.

Feel better being reminded that it's now July Wink

How small is small? In terms of price and size? These are all very unimaginative but
Magazine subscription?
Cookery or BBQ book
Razor blades/shaving stuff
Eye cream (something my dh wouldn't buy for himself but loves)
Socks/gloves/umbrella
Wallet/card holder/passport holder/business card book
Key ring
chocs/sweets/alcoholic tipple of choice/whisky rocks/novelty ice cube tray
Hobby related eg golf balls, tennis socks, bike accessories or whatever
Gadgetry - gaming stuff, iTunes vouchers, phone case

secondhoneymoon · 01/07/2017 18:50

Thank you notwithout. These are the sorts of things I usually buy, am wondering what I can get now in the sales before the shops are swamped with overpriced rubbish. Really easy for female stockings, harder for men. Will watch out for offers on obligatory socks n boxers!

I do this for my DH. Contents have a included a wallet, cufflinks, small gadgets for his car (like a scratch repair pen), miniature bottles of Scotch, one of those spoof Ladybird books ("How It Works - The Husband"), a pair of gloves, travel-size toiletries, his favourite sweets, an MP3 player, and assorted small kitchen gadgets (pizza cutter, cake tester, novelty cheese knife...)

namechangefox · 02/07/2017 10:49

I have two nearly adult sons and a DP so am watching with interest.

Last year I included in DS's:
A bottle of fruity cider
Pot noodle
Handy tool card
Greggs gift voucher
Coloured charging cable

Cornerstone do a brilliant engraved razor plus other products to go alongside. They come in a really nice box.

There was a referral thread last year for it and loads of us got one!

If you use this link, you get £10 off and I get £10 credit:

www.cornerstone.co.uk/7nic1035

If you prefer for me not to get credit (which is fine, I don't mind!) then go to www.cornerstone.co.uk and you'll get £10 off your first order anyway!

I followed a thread last year where people recommended these two things

  1. FORMcard
  2. SUGRU They are quite cool gifts for men who like gadgety DIY things. They are hard to explain but google have some cool videos of what they do. They are great stocking fillers
HolyShmoly · 02/07/2017 20:48

Ah I just posted on the other thread about the clinique sampler, so thanks for that. I couldn't find it on their own site so I was confused.

Two things that DH has really liked in the past have been the multi-tool credit card thing and a seatbelt cutter/windscreen hammer. The cutter/hammer thing is if he ever got trapped in the car in an accident, he kind of poo-pooed it originally, but not long after that awful tragedy happened in Ireland where a family got trapped in their car and died. We're both more comfortable knowing that it's there now.
He tends to like practical things. He's still a bit Hmm about the formcard I got him last Christmas, but I feel like he'll change his mind once he needs it for something.

We've bought a house this year, so his Christmas and Birthday presents will probably contain something home-owner related. Any suggestions?

Leather bracelet
Wallet ninja
Beard oil
Metal shirt collar things
Tub of fav sweets

unfortunateevents · 03/07/2017 19:50

No time to read the whole thread but things which have worked here are:

novelty socks and pants
car air fresheners
ice scrapers
chamois cloths
fun chocolates
guitar plectrum
guitar strings
Novelty Christmas stuff - last year I got the inflatable reindeer antler game posted on here, also novelty glasses from Poundland and a set of those card masks (can't remember the correct name) which you stick on your nostrils, which had a Christmas theme
mini toiletries
mini bottles of booze
nail clippers
lottery ticket
fun luggage tag

Will post more as I remember

secondhoneymoon · 04/07/2017 07:26

Thank you everyone. The thread title wasn't very clear -I was thinking about what I could get in the summer sales for men's stocking fillers as I've stumbled across a few bits for DD decent quality half price. That said all the suggestions on here are really useful x
