Does anyone still have their decorations up?

My mum keeps hers up till February. This year mine are still up, me & OH have been ill since Christmas day & I usually have my mum round between christmas & NY for a christmas celebration at mine, so i'm thinking to try and still do this :-?
I know theres something called candlemas on 2nd Feb that is said to have at one time been the time to take decorations down....
I'd feel better about it if it wasn't just me (and my mum)
PS. i have no kids yet so they wont be being bullied at school for having a weirdo mum

I would love to get away with keeping the decorations up this long - I miss them . We put ours up quite early though so by 12th night they're looking a bit dead..

It's only in recent (ish) times that it's been the thing to take them down this early anyway - until around the 19th Century everybody kept them up until the 2nd February (Candlemas).

I'm keeping my fairy lights up at least until the summer though - they are way too pretty to be stuck in the loft all year.

Ours are all still up! DP and I were away for New Years and then we've had a crazy couple of weeks with work. Planning to take the decs down Friday or Saturday so DP can get rid of the tree.

Oh god I couldn't wait to get mine down. They went up on the 14th December and down on 2nd Jan. More than long enough, I wanted my house back

Every year i say that i am not going to take the tree down but then buckle at the last minute and do it 6th jan.
Next yr think i will leave them up until feb as well. Thanks for this thread you have inspired me

My Polish neighbours still have theirs up and their window lights are still on. They put their tree up very late, a day or two before Christmas, and then they leave them up for most of January.

Tree, cards all gone. But, have decided that as it's so bloody miserable without them to leave the fairy lights so have put them round the bookcase, and on the mantel piece, and - as a further act of defiance - have left the outside lights! My neighbour said how glad she was as they made things cheerful! So - until the lighter nights arrive - the lights are staying!

Only the 3 random pieces that got overlooked when we took them down.

Ours came down on 6th Jan - I thought it was bad luck to leave them up after twelfth night? I do miss my beautiful tree though.

Roseandbee, they went up on the 19th and came down on the 26th.....

In my defence, its been a rough few months, lots of stress at work etc and i was finding it difficult to get excited over christmas this year and had no motovation to get any decorations up.

Kids are all teenagers, not sure they noticed we had tree etc

Also Dalmatians and Christmas trees don't mix, so the quicker it's all done and dusted the better

I find Xmas a really difficult time, so up 21st and down 27th. Would prefer not to have any at all, but have young children.

ahhh Roseandbee that is such a lovely thing for your mum to do , sometimes I see things like that and they just resonate with me you know

I work with a Polish nurse and she tells me all about their Christmas festivities and traditions and it sounds lovely , she told me they eat this special fish ........Carp and that she hates it lol also Christmas goes on till Feb 2nd , Candlemass , reading about it they have some really lovely traditions. I think I want to visit there sometime
