Family Get Togethers---what did you do?

We have 2 very different types of FGTs; we make small talk at one, with some awkward silences and at the other we play family games.

What do your FGTs consist of and what do you prefer?

We had one. 3 were invited, 2 were sick. Called us at 11am. Twas shit.

We have the same 3 every year because they are DH's father, brother and sister. Nice people, unfortunately dull as anything. We live in DH's country. DH has other siblings but no one EVER invites these 3 to anything over Xmas as they're arseholes.

My DM doesn't celebrate Xmas. My DF celebrated with a houseful of his partner's children. We do, however, have a huge yearly shindig with my dad's side of the family, around May/June, he is one of 9 dc, these parties are epic

But Christmas at the Conyo's is fairly quiet, sadly. Even though 5yo DS is noisier than 20 monkeys

ours are more a gathering of adults as our DC are older teens, but we sill enjoy games. meeting with DH's family is v stuffy and hard work
