I'm one of seven and have a bajillion nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and even a great-great-nephew. That makes me sound ancient - I'm under 50 (until next year) This year alone I've got a 21st, an 18th, a 50th, a 60th, a graduation, a christening (possibly 2) and 3 first holy communions. 💷💷💷💷💷

TheWoollybacksWife · 18/01/2017 22:54

DD has asked for a new phone and we'll get her a charm for her bracelet too.

HungryHorace · 18/01/2017 23:16

Wow. That is a large family!

I dreamt that my (16yo!) niece was pregnant the other day...gave my sister the vapours! 😂

We only have each other, so no massive numbers in our generation. My DH is one of 4, but only two have kids and the other sibling who has kids is in NZ. My in laws went from 0 to 4 grandkids in 2 years. No more are likely for a while though!

73kittycat73 · 19/01/2017 01:45

I have made a fair bit of choc and it is the most fun ever. I would love to work some Christmas flavours in and also some seasonal shapes!

Oh, sounds delicious, what flavours were you thinking of? (I ask desperately as I'm on a diet and haven't had nearly enough chocolate as usual. Xmas Grin )

HairsprayBabe · 19/01/2017 08:17

I have a HUGE family! Irish Catholic on both sides, dads mum is one of 14! the others have more modest sizes, paternal grandfather one of 6 maternal grandfather one of 5 maternal grandmother one of 9.

Most of them are still alive! We had a family reunion on my paternal grandmothers side and there were over 100 of us and we had wear labels so we knew who was who!!!

Xmas Grin

Popped into a Wyevale Garden centre yesterday (emergency nappy change Hmm) - their christmas bits sale was looking good but I didn't get a chance to have a proper look. I will be making a return visit today.

Also considering camping outside Boots to go in like a locust and clear the shelves!

Mummysh0rtlegs · 19/01/2017 11:49

Ooh we have a wyevale near here (not worlds end.. that's near my mum) might go and have a look!

MrsDilligaf · 19/01/2017 17:27

Mummy this time it wasn't World's End - it was Bicester Avenue!

Didn't manage to get there today - which is probably a good thing as I would have been in Laura Ashley, weeping over the lovely interiors stuff.

My Dad gave Martha a leubkuken which she demolished...the bits of it that didn't make it into her mouth were scattered all across the floor so I have resigned myself to the fact that I will not be the proud owner of a House Beautiful worthy home for many years to come.

HungryHorace · 19/01/2017 18:40

MrsD...if you don't have a cordless vacuum, get one! We love ours for speedy cleaning of toddler detritus! (With a 'proper' vacuum once a week.)

purplecabbage · 19/01/2017 19:37

kittycat re choc flavours: cardamom and rose; ginger and orange; poss use some edible gold??

Hope diet is going well! Are you working any particular plan? In my case just finishing the final tasty bits and bobs and from thence no mercy!!! Down to the least favourite: some very odd tasting chai spiced nuts from Waitrose.

The usual routine is that I take first pick - in this case the pistachios and hazelnuts - then pass jar to DH who will happily munch through the remainder indiscriminately!

In a way, I feel relieved that the festive food has all gone. I came across a saying, 'if it's in my place it's in my face' (from an American dieter) which I find to be true!

Again chocolate: noticed a guy in Tesco yesterday picking up his lunch - a sandwich with crisps and a side of Creme Egg!! I mean when did they arrive?? The reduced chocolate Father Christmas's are still on the shelves!!

Mrsmadevans · 19/01/2017 19:54

Handbag crazy hi my dear are you expecting a baby ? If so congratulations my dear ! I am in good old Abergavenny are you anywhere near me? Am looking forward to the Boots sale tomoz and I must go to Wyedale in Raglan to see if there are any good bargains! Good luck all with the Boots shelves ransacking tomoz lol xx

Mummysh0rtlegs · 19/01/2017 21:54

I was going to ask if it was Bicester avenue. I like that one as it has a Lakeland. We have one now in my town so I haven't been over for a while.

Mummysh0rtlegs · 19/01/2017 21:56

Handheld dyson is my best post children purchase.

A handheld vac is on my list of things to buy...I look at the Dysons from time to timeI've even been known to stroke one lovingly and I am going to have to get something. Especially since Martha thinks that the dustpan and brush is a toy (Hmmm there's a thought for Christmas!)

73kittycat73 · 20/01/2017 01:14

'if it's in my place it's in my face'

Lol, very true purplecabbage. I did a post Christmas cull of any goodies left. There are still some deserts in the fridge downstairs but I find I forget about them.
I'm kind of doing Paul Mckennas' I can make you thin, whilst also eating less (Much less! :p ) and eating more healthy.
I weighed myself on the 9th of this month and won't again 'till the 6th of February. Then, as it's my mums birthday we've planned to gobble a chocolate cake! Can't wait! lol Xmas Grin This is of course after being weighed.

cardamom and rose; ginger and orange; poss use some edible gold???

They sound delicious. Deffinately some edible gold, it is Christmas after all. Xmas Grin

HungryHorace · 20/01/2017 08:03

MrsD, look at the Melissa and Doug cleaning set. We got it for the kids last year and they think it's great to help with cleaning. (DD also loves using the Dyson, which is another win!)

HairsprayBabe · 20/01/2017 08:43

I really want a gtech air ram, I used one at my aunts holiday home and fell in love, asked DP of one and he was like do you want one for christmas Hmm I turned that kind offer down!

Keep meaning to buy one and a new sofa but forget and spend money on other things! I hate our old hoover so much I avoid using it so the hose ends up gross! I am bad at housework so so so bad I hate doing it and I am not very good at it! The laundry is always overflowing and we don't even have kids!!!

BiddyPop · 20/01/2017 10:31

I managed to get a couple of little heart shaped sweetie dishes (Ainsley but pottery rather than china) yesterday - down from €10 to €3, which will be lovely presents for teachers, neighbours etc. And I am sorted for my 5 siblings and 4 OHs stockings as well.

Handheld vacuum is a great thing - we got one when DD was small, and it is just about dying so are considering it's replacement (we're actually thinking about the wall-mounted chordless dyson and getting rid of the big one along with the hand-held). It's also extremely handy for cleaning crumbs from the back seat of the car (even still, now that DD is 11, we STILL have that problem!). But DD had loved using her small brush and pan, and child sized sweeping brush, that we got in Mothercare - they were decent enough to actually work. I just wish I could get her to do it again (she lost interest in most housework jobs at about age 7).

I need to curtail my spending seriously though - we need to redo one room (it needs flooring, shelving, blinds, paint, removing the artex from the ceiling - a LOT of work!), we need a holiday with sun this summer, and my poor savings have been wiped out before we even start those.

After a bad week in school, we've decided that DD will not go to DBIL's 40th this weekend, DH will stay home with her and I will travel alone. We said it was because DH is tired (and he is) but it's really that DD is waaay overtired and unable to regulate herself. So she needs a calm weekend (although saying that, she's going to a swimming party tomorrow instead - but will then have a quieter time and an early night- if she travelled, she would stay with Nanna and Grandad and probably get to bed about midnight!).

Happy Boots Sale Day!

Poor lad serving me today said it was mental at 8.30. and that the 70% off sale is worse than black friday

Mmm those choc sound fabulous! In my student days I made Bailey's truffles for friends but couldn't get the hang of tempering milk and white chocolate so they lacked that nice snap. I might use my Rudolph Days to experiment.
Hand held vac for toddlers never caught on in my house as my children share my genetic aversion to housework! DS hated the noise of the big Hoover too and used to have lots of fun hiding behind the sofa so he could jump out, switch it off, and hide again.
Even now that the kids are all in school I'm not great at cleaning. I'm focusing on decluttering now so i feel like I'm doing lots but really it's another cleaning avoidance strategy. But it turns out I'm no great shakes at that either. oh my there is just so much stuff. I'm trying to focus on small areas to sort out thoroughly to get going and give a sense of achievement. So far I've done my wardrobe, car, utility and downstairs closet and the small bathroom. I find making a list of what should be in there helps because I have so much stuff that doesn't have anywhere it actually belongs because it's useless and needs to go I wish I could just turn the house upside down and shake it all out and then just pick through the nicest bits and put them back in.

nickdrakeslovechild · 20/01/2017 13:16

My local boots was great! got lots of jack wills gift sets for all the teen boys and soap and glory sets for all the girls along with all the teachers/ assistants, aunts and uncles. Got about 20 presents for £40. I got the soap and glory crackers for about £4!

73kittycat73 · 20/01/2017 16:44

Me and my mum always joke that when we win the lottery we're going to buy a Dyson, but Mary won't be in it! Xmas Grin (Royle Family ref.)

AmyAmoeba · 20/01/2017 21:18

that's a great haul nickdrakeslovechild, I managed to forget about Boots after going on Wednesday Sad but did pick up some boxes of cards in not-my-normal-branch-of Tesco for 37c for a box of 20. The kids like to give everyone in their class a card and then some so delighted to stock up at that price. Got wrapping paper for 19c and matching tags for 12c so I may have to buy everyone giant presents this year Smile or commit to this style of wrapping for the next decade! Feeling a bit foolish for buying the last few rolls of that paper in my local Tesco at the shockingly exorbitant price of 75c two weeks ago! What was I thinking?!

biddypop does that mean you will be having a nice weekend break at the birthday party? I sympathise as my DS doesn't always do that well with changes of routine and it can be stressful to navigate family events. Decided to attend a funeral by myself over Christmas and while I was sad, there was a little bit of happy dancing going on in my head at the rare chance to be out and away by myself.

I missed the Boots sale too (doing virtuous things like taking shoes to the recycling thingy and glass to the glass bank)

I am on Low Spend 2017 for clothes 'n;' make up but I bought some Steam Cream because:
It was 50% off
Its Non Animal Tested and suitable for vegans (I'm not vegan but the animal bit is vital to me)
And it's in a Christmas Tin Xmas Grin so it HAD to come home with me , yes!

lollyj84 · 21/01/2017 16:10

OMG!!
Embarrassing mum moment. I took Ds1 football training this morning. The pitches were all frosty and the pathway leading up to it were icy. I slipped and fell straight on to my bum in front of all the other mums and dads. I jumped up as fast as i could and quickly walked away.
