What books did you get this year?

I love a book thread! And on general 'what have you bought' threads I usually just list them as 'books' but it's fun to see what everyone will be reading.

I bought way too many this year - I promised myself last Christmas that I wouldn't go mad, but then I befriended an Usborne seller. Xmas Hmm Xmas Grin She does sales throughout the year and I bought loads at great discount.

Some are coming from my parents/grandma as they prefer me buying on their behalf. Some are from Santa as DD insisted that Santa always brings books!

DH - I've got him the latest Ben Aaronovitch, although I just decided to swap it with the much needed hat I got him for his birthday so he won't actually get it until next month.

DD 9
Bone Collection: Dinosaurs
Dinosaur sticker book
1920s fashion colouring
Greek Myth sticker book
A Little Princess

DS 7
Transformers Vault
London mosaic sticker book
Chess activity book
Greek Myth sticker book
Stories of Thor reader

Shared:
History of Britain set
Greek Myths book
Horrible History timeline sticker book
Edward Lear Book of Nonsense
Star Wars origami
Tim Peake ISS photo book
Crosswords for kids

I now feel like I might spend some of my birthday money on a book for myself, I feel a tad left out Xmas Grin

Thanks for the heads up Newt - DH and I have decided that swearing in books isn't an issue for us, we just want our DC to be aware of what's appropriate in different contexts. But I appreciate your comment Smile

This is the only specific book I've asked for. Really hope I get it!

SatsukiKusakabe · 22/12/2016 16:12

I've mentioned Lonesome Dove, Nora Ephron anthology and David Mitchell's Thousand Autumns, will see what I land with.

Loving the corpse in a Santa hat. Grin

traviata · 22/12/2016 18:22

Remus that book is great. I love Mary. Also read her 'Packing for Mars'. I just wish my sieve-like mind could retain anything of what she writes.

Bobsmum02 · 22/12/2016 19:10

DD(10) - The midnight gang and the new diary of a wimpy kid
DS(2) - Avengers busy book and a few Julia Donaldson ones
DBro - Fantastic Beasts Screenplay

Newtssuitcase · 23/12/2016 07:32

I twitched last night and also bought DS1(11) Book 1 and book2 of the Miss Perigrine series.

He wrote his christmas list yesterday to Father Christmas:

  1. Books
  2. Books
  3. Some more books please

He should be happy, particularly since he'll also devour DS2's

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 23/12/2016 13:01

Thanks, Traviata. If it's not under the tree, I'll treat myself to both in the new year.

traviata · 23/12/2016 13:40

Newts that's a great list!

Cagliostro · 24/12/2016 01:03

Thanks everyone! Lovely to read all the lists, there will be a lot of reading on Christmas day Xmas Grin and some intriguing titles mentioned that I shall google!

I usually find that during the present opening the books are the least looked at but they get so much use and love thereafter.

This is the book I really want at the moment, after falling in love with it in a gallery shop. I don't like asking for really specific things though (surprises much preferred here) so I will get it from my birthday money after.
