I want a marble run

I don't need one, dd already has a present bought and wrapped. But i really want one. Has anyone else bought a toy pretending it's for the kids - but really, it's for them. I can afford it but it seems so ridiculous. I'm 38.

youokhun Smyths toys have 3 for 2 on board games, there's a marble run included in their selection Xmas Grin

OhFuds · 20/12/2016 21:12

That's all my 4yr old has asked for, I bought him a big Galt one for xmas. I hope it's good because I've since found put he loves the wooden one at nursery.

shakemysilliesout · 21/12/2016 06:35

My dh loves it, he puts it together with 8 yr old nephew and then all the younger ones enjoy it. I think if you like building stuff, physics, details then it's great for any age.

For marble run fans, there's a quirky mechanical museum in Stratford upon Avon that is about 90% interesting things to do with marbles... its small but I definitely recommend it, and there's a hands on area too..,

BikeRunSki · 21/12/2016 07:16

That museum looks awesome Jen, and would be perfect for breaking the 4 hour journey to the PiLs!

Chipsandonionrings · 21/12/2016 07:25

Santa has brought one for our dc as a joint present and when I say joint I mean me too. I never had one as a kid and can't wait to play with it!

My dad bought my bro a train set because he had always wanted one, dbro was less than interested.

FrostyWind · 21/12/2016 07:27

I have one.

habibihabibi · 21/12/2016 07:35

My son has played(surpervised) with my marble run since he was one. I love it and recently added another via a car boot .
I also have a farm set and lots of playmobil I've bought for myself although the childen play with them.

Playing with a marble run is pretty much the only thing I miss about not having small DCs anymore. All I have to do now is wait for grandchildren to appear one day and then that marble run will be out of the garage faster than I can drop a marble down a loop. We used to have names for the good marbles - for some reason one of them was called Murray.

some marble runs are not designed for kids, get one.
Alternatively, I have one that sticks to the fridge door. Mine all mine.

FrostyWind · 21/12/2016 07:50

We need a link, pestilence

Santamajormummy000 · 21/12/2016 08:04

It warms my heart on Christmas day when we all sit around a toy for the youngest and get excited. 2 years ago it was a Quercetti marble run (so DD was 8) and last year it was a remote control BMW (yes, she did ask for it).

This year it's a box of magic tricks.

Pestilence13610 · 21/12/2016 08:12

Unfortunaltley my fridge one is about 20 years old.

Twinkletowedelephant · 21/12/2016 08:15

Me and dh spent ages building the boys marble run...As at school they love it.... They gave up after 20 minutes and never touched it at home again.. we donated it to school for wet play where it is played with every time it rains ;)

Also NERF guns....We have many

Haggisfish · 21/12/2016 08:16

Those grown up ones are awesome!

beela · 21/12/2016 08:19

We all love our marble run. Ds is 6 and dd is 2. It came from a car boot sale... best £3 we've ever spent!

We also love the MAD museum in Stratford Xmas Smile

Natsku · 21/12/2016 08:27

I got one for DD that's really for me. I also got her a travel spirograph last time I was at the airport that's really for me. I'm tempted to get her a remote control snake next that's for me too but I'll wait until her birthday.

Freedom2016 · 21/12/2016 21:23

I've ordered a Galt Mega - not too pricey at all and if I don't love it and Dd doesn't get any play out of it - once she can be trusted not to eat the marbles - I won't be too disappointed passing it on. Thanks I have enjoyed all your marble stories.
