Have misplaced my Christmas spirit...

... anyone got any ideas where I might find it??

So far it hasn't been:

  • at the annual Christmas shopping trip with the girls
  • in any of the 4yo's Lego Advent Calendar doors
  • at the staff Christmas do
  • at the school Panto or Carol concert
  • in 'Love Actually', 'The Holiday', Muppets Christmas Carol', 'Arthur Christmas' or 'Fred Claus'.
  • on the 'Christmas' Spotify playlist
  • in Santa's grotto with 4yo
  • in the box of Christmas cards whilst writing or the post office when sending
  • in the boxes of decorations I'm halfway through putting up after delaying for a week

Where else can I look, folks?

Hello friends.
Mine is missing too, ''tis the first year for 16 that I have been working and I am not happy and festive at all I am more blind panic and anxiety.
I suffer badly with anxiety it cripples me so am def in need of a medical dose of festive spirit when it can be found.
I have tried silly reindeer headband and novelt earrings. Tried Christmas jumper and Christmas crafts with the kids at school. Even the normally tear inducing nativity play did nothing for me.
Am willing to pay black market prices if it would help. X

flutterworc · 18/12/2016 23:18

Let us know if you find a source Strumpers - though with the high demand clearly evident here it might be better to keep schtum in case we drive up prices...

I found it in random bits of human gorgeousness in St Pancras station. An old man bashing out fantastic tunes on the public piano, a stunning male ballet dancer doing the splits for a photo op, families meeting, parting and shopping for Christmas.

Oh and two berry bellinis, finally got my Christmas motor humming.

DrowningInPoop · 19/12/2016 06:04

Wasn't in the layers of M&S chocolate my friend gave me to get through the week either! (Eaten late last night and not at 6am this morning as tempting as that sounds)

flutterworc · 19/12/2016 07:04

Perhaps that was the error, Drowning - eating chocolate for breakfast has festive connotations and may produce slight feelings of Christmas spirit amidst the nausea...?

OP posts:
DrowningInPoop · 19/12/2016 12:06

Had a few more for breakfast - still not found it. massively down in the dumps as MIL is now messing with arrangements FFS

I think I will find it on the 28th just in time for our 2nd Christmas when we're home and can please ourselves.

Any luck for you OP? Don't think it helps that children are still in school.

Bauble16 · 19/12/2016 12:21

I found it this morning watching the snowman and sorting through some Xmas food.

It comes and goes for me :)

Badders123 · 19/12/2016 12:26

Mine still AWOL.
DC bickering, I've been to the dr and have a chest infection.
So I can't even drink and fake it!

Wildwillow · 19/12/2016 12:56

Great thread. I like 'Nativity' anything else feels too schmaltzy...
I am really fed up with being a grumpy old trout. But I can see it happening. Cannot abide the commercialism of Christmas and trying to please everyone simultaneously. Will feel a lot better when it over. Confused
All I really want to do is go and help someone who actually needs a hug and a chat and a cup of tea.

Walking into a coffee shop, queuing, handing over a fiver and asking the barista to use it to pay for the next person's coffee gave me a glimmer.

Now listening to Pentatonix Christmas album on way to panto and those first little embers are starting to glow...

That's nice Flutter. I bought the Big issue the other day with a bit extra but that didn't help either.

I have said that next year we're staying home and locking the door for 3 days Wink I'm sure that would make me feel festive

VanillaSugarAndChristmasSpice · 19/12/2016 16:57

I have had enough of Christmas already.

flutterworc · 19/12/2016 20:05

Hold out just a little longer Vanilla. Don't lose faith!

Driving through the town where I grew up and looking at the lights I remember gave me a big nostalgic rush, but it didn't hang around...

Ooooohhh I found some! It's in Aldi more specifically in their millionaire shortbread pie thingy (Christmas section of the chilled food) I couldn't fit it in the fridge (supposed to be for the pre Christmas buffet) so had to eat it otherwise it would go off. And there it was just sitting there waiting for me near the bottom of the box. Im going to see if there's anymore in the sparkling wine I bought, hopefully it will be at the bottom of the bottle most likely Grin

VanillaSugarAndChristmasSpice · 19/12/2016 20:57

Hooray, I found Elf in WHSmiths for £4.95 so we're watching it in front of a fire, wrapped in blankets. DH is going to take Friday off so.... you know... there's a glimmer..... 🎅🎄

I found part of mine in ds's Christmas concert but it went missing again. I suspect I left mine behind in August when I had to start planning my Christmas stock for work. It may be located again on Christmas Eve when we're at the panto or possibly when I do Christmas baking with DS on Friday Hmm

flutterworc · 20/12/2016 15:39

Thinking about Christmas is August is bound to temper its impact come December, certainly. Well, I've been engulfed in a mini-wave of it from spending the day with DS(4) and my parents in my home town, where someone seems to have released a miasma of Christmas Spirit blended with Nostalgia and Reminiscence. Can highly recommend.

There was a surprising free gift of some whilst fighting the queues in M&S to collect the Christmas food!

I've not found it at all this year and it's making me feel a bit sad - my dd has just turned 2 so I was hoping this would be the year I got my festive spirit back!

I think the fact that I'm doing dinner (again) this year and the stress of cooking for 7 people is putting a dampner on it.

That and the fact I stupidly invited my mother to stay on Christmas Eve - I may have strangled her with the tinsel by the end of the night.

I'd hoped handing over my wee gift bag to the homelessman I pass next to the train station every day would make me feel warm and fuzzy but the bloody train was cancelled and I'm now working from home and not back in the office until the new year.

Looking forward to finishing up work tomorrow (why can't it be today??) and having a few drinks tomorrow night to relax and get in the spirit.

Got a carol singing concert on Saturday so maybe I'll find it there!!

MuppetsChristmasCarol · 22/12/2016 16:31

Have you been to a carol concert yet?

Eaten mince pies and brandy cream?

ChocolateStarBiscuits · 24/12/2016 09:42

Drowning here - not even a semi festive name change has helped and it is now Christmas eve!

Off to have our big happy family Christmas Eve meal soon which means hanging out in MILs house for 7-8hrs while people bark at each other, make PA remarks and eat wonderful food, none of which my small will like. He's having chicken nuggets Grin

OdinsLoveChild · 24/12/2016 09:48

I lost it again Xmas Sad found it briefly last week but today it's completely gone absolutely nothing.
I've got in laws coming over today to eat all my food, drink all my booze probably complain about life and everyone they know followed in quick succession by my parents coming over to do the same. Today is going to be a nightmare and I still haven't finished shopping! Xmas Blush

spababe · 24/12/2016 11:03

Just shouted at my husband - I'm trying to get everything ready for tomorrow and he is (still) sitting in bed reading a book. The very moment I went to the kitchen to start doing veg he rocked up to make himself kippers and get in my way. I feel close to tears now. He's good in other ways but rarely helps in the kitchen.
