Have misplaced my Christmas spirit...

... anyone got any ideas where I might find it??

So far it hasn't been:

  • at the annual Christmas shopping trip with the girls
  • in any of the 4yo's Lego Advent Calendar doors
  • at the staff Christmas do
  • at the school Panto or Carol concert
  • in 'Love Actually', 'The Holiday', Muppets Christmas Carol', 'Arthur Christmas' or 'Fred Claus'.
  • on the 'Christmas' Spotify playlist
  • in Santa's grotto with 4yo
  • in the box of Christmas cards whilst writing or the post office when sending
  • in the boxes of decorations I'm halfway through putting up after delaying for a week

Where else can I look, folks?

user It will pass. Fear not, it will pass.....

flutterworc · 17/12/2016 09:44

I'm hoping I'm not menopausal (mid-30s) as I suspect mine is being dinted by the interminable slog of TTC#2... though the fertility drugs may also be partially to blame.

Well, 'Polar Express' didn't have it...

Well the presents are wrapped, cards written and sent, the tree is up but not decorated and I'm going on a wreath making workshop later. It just feels like ticking off jobs on my never ending list.
Can't be bothered with my tasteful string of lights on the porch when two neighbours have migraine inducing flashing stuff draped all over their houses ( in all sorts of colours and seems to stay on all night).
Maybe I'll feel better when the tree is finished this evening, maybe need to add cider!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/12/2016 11:19

I'm hoping to find mine at the local church Carol service tomorrow. Always lovely, always packed, and lovely decorations. They chuck in mince pies and mulled wine afterwards, too.

Funnily enough the time I have often found it (OK, rather late) is very late on Christmas Eve, going for a walk with Dh, armed with a pair of secateurs and a swag bag, like a thief in the night, to nick a couple of choice sprigs of holly with berries from a road nearby where there's always plenty.

One gets stuck in the top of the Christmas pud - the other(s) will join my garden-greenery/candle table decoration.

PixieMiss · 17/12/2016 12:17

Agree with all that has been said here. It is my DS's first Xmas so I should be the jolliest twat this side of the North Pole but I just can't be Sad

Sick of doing it all alone, cooking, cleaning, baby duties. My DH got me a xmas card that started "i know we both live busy lives..." which was a massive slap in face as he does nothing round house.

I want this year to be over but I know 2017 will be the same.

VanillaSugarAndChristmasSpice · 17/12/2016 13:08

pixie - have a very low key Xmas and do the minimum. If your DH complaints than say you didn't have time to do it, then cry. Don't exhaust yourself, keep it manageable and do it your way. I'm serious about the paper plates! This year, my Xmas dinner is coming out of a packet. I'm doing the ironing and watching Jamie's Bloody Awesome Best Christmas Ever and laughing cynically. In your dreams, mate. In your dreams.

Christmas? Fuck off.

Gingernaut · 17/12/2016 13:14

I'm working.

The only bonus is a wheeled cooler box, the size of a large under counter fridge, from Catering with enough sandwiches and cake to sink a small boat.

New Year, there'll be another cooler box.

The food lasts for days.

Right, have managed to locate a coupl of tiny stashes, if anyone wants to see if theirs is there.

It turns out that my bed had some, but it's only on duty between 7am-9am, so I had missed it whilst at work/looking after child.

There was a sprinkling of it in amongst the Christmas lights at the bottom of the decorations, so I only found it when they were all up.

Am now going to try some random acts of kindness, because there is a rumour going around that you're sometime given it as payment...

I am hoping to find mine at the carol service this evening. Feeling unwell. House decorated on my day off last week. No cards done yet. Dreading doing the big shop with two teens in tow... plus I ve to do a six hour round trip to collect DH Wednesday, so hope to find it then.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/12/2016 13:45

Booty - Can't you leave the two teens at home, or shove them in the cafe?

I'm hoping I'm going to find my Christmas spirit in the following places/times:
wrapping presents kater this afternoon
iceskating followed by gingerbread lattes
carols on the village green on Christmas Eve

I might have to succumb to pigtails with tinsel around them.

NeonPinkNails · 18/12/2016 15:24

I can confirm that Nigella's White Chocolate and Cranberry Cookies have definitely got a bit in, DD made them this afternoon and there aren't many left Blush.

Dfg15 · 18/12/2016 15:35

So pleased it's not only me. I usually love putting all my Christmas stuff out, but really couldn't be bothered this year. The tree is up and a few bits are out but that's as far as I'm going.

OopsDearyMe · 18/12/2016 15:41

Oggood not just me then, been just me and kids for years now. So no sure why this year I feel so panicky thing its stolen mine.

Oblomov16 · 18/12/2016 15:48

I can't find mine this year. Maybe I need a baileys and my favourite : miracle in 34th.

babyapril · 18/12/2016 15:53

I lost mine in 1986 at 14/15
It came back between 91- 2003.
Then left. I doubt l will ever find it again. Confused

VanillaSugarAndChristmasSpice · 18/12/2016 15:55

Hope. Still not here. Am watching National Lampoon's Christmas to make me feel better.

cashmerecardigans · 18/12/2016 17:18

Mines just arrived, watching the Snowman on C4+1. Intro by David Bowie too (sob)

PixieMiss · 18/12/2016 17:31

I shoule Vanilla but it's the other 364 days too Xmas Hmm

I found a bit watching National Lampoons Xmas Grin

Monkeyinshoes · 18/12/2016 19:31

I found a bit watching Arthur Christmas a couple weeks ago but then it went and has not come back since.

Tree is up, cards written, present wrapping started but nope, nothing.

Going to watch Home Alone later, hopefully I find it there.

Misty9 · 18/12/2016 21:06

Mine is awol this year too. Norovirus wiped out any early flutterings last week and now I've got a sore/tickly throat and cough starting. I tried baking gingerbread with dd but nothing. Santa's grotto and Xmas Dec choosing just awoke the cynical commercialism gremlins this weekend. Haven't bothered to write cards yet so maybe I'll look there...

DrowningInPoop · 18/12/2016 21:26

Nothing here either Xmas Sad

flutterworc · 18/12/2016 21:34

A slice of Yule log had a tiny bit of the essence in it...

I found mine about half way though O Little Town of Bethlehem at the candlelit Carol service this evening. And it got stronger while listening to the readings, which were thought provoking and didn't run away from the truth that it's been a tough year in the world. My view from the choir stalls of a packed church - regulars, friends, family and strangers - all lit up by candle light, also helped.

I'm nervous that it will run away again when I get to work tomorrow morning, though.

bootygirl · 18/12/2016 22:54

Teens came & brought friends. They enjoyed it & meeting some of my friends was lovely. Enjoyed the service. Had fruit punch & chat after.

Hope I don't lose it again.

Difficultyear2015 · 18/12/2016 23:02

Pregnancy hormones seem to have stollen (get it!) my festive cheer this year too

I should be so excited
